I search and found no main topic for this, so here it is.

How many of you guys have seen or currently watch the office? Do you like it?

It is one of the few shows I'll park my butt in front of the t.v. for. Every thursday night. ha.

I've never seen the old british version of this show, but I've heard the American version is funnier, but that could just be a matter of opinion.

It's on about season 4, and is going wrap up this season here around may 15th. Because of the writers strike, there has been only like 13 episodes this season so, hopefully we will get at least another season next year.

Here are a few tidbits from what I could find on youtube:

also, if this has already been discussed, feel free to lock it.

Yeah, I guess it's just a matter of opinion really, since I prefer the British version.

I love The Office, it just fits in so well with the current trend in "uncomfortable" comedy.

But yeah, I'd be very wary saying it's better than the British version.   A lot of things that get Americanized, get dumbed down.  The British version can actually make me have to stop it for a few minutes just because it's that uncomfortable.  I love that...

I've watched both, and I think the "humour" in the British version is a little more well thought out.  The "humor" in the American version is hilarious still, but on a more "what you see is what you get" kind of level.  But I'll be damned if Steve Carrell doesn't play Michael Scott PERFECTLY!  And Dwight Schrute may be one of the greatest TV characters evar!

"Yeah I saw Wedding Crashers, on accident.  I went into the theater to see Grizzly Man.  After about an hour I realized I should go, but I didn't, because bear attacks always occur when you least expect them."

Yeah I guess I don't really have any say in the matter of which version is funnier...considering I've never seen the British version.

But I watch this show religiously, it is the only show I've followed since almost the beginning.

The Office UK is great.  If you are a die hard US Office fan, you HAVE to see the UK one. But, when you do, the UK Office Ruins season 1 of the US Office. The US Office Season one is just a complete re-hash of The Office UK.

Season one US is mediocre at best. I guess they tried to show the humor of the UK version to America, where the UK version wasnt seen much in te states.  It just feels wierd watching season one US after seeing the UK one.  But after they used up the UK material, the  US show really took off.

The US has Versions of most of the UK staff, but the US has a different take on those characters.

Jim/Tim are about the same.

Dwight/Garreth have the same blind loyalty, but Garreth is a little smarter, but a little smarter

David/Michael  are very different.  They both think they're funny, but David is more creepy, more unsavory, chauvonist, and really unnintentionally rude.  Michael is more aloof, but a good guy.

Kieth/Kevin are entirely different.  Kieth is this monotone drone, but says the most hilarious, rediculous shit.  Kevin... well kevin is kevin.

chris Finch/Todd Packer are very different.  Finch is just a fucking asshole.  Packer more of that dumb ass party guy that is brash but just wants to laugh.

Roy/Lee  Roy is alot nicer than Lee.  Still similiar guys, but Lee was just a tool, Roy wasn't too bada guy.

Dawn/Pam Relatively the same.

Angela, Stanley, Oliver, Karen, The Temp, all have counterparts in the U.K. but are vastly different.

Creed on the other hand.... Creed is too creepy to compare to anyone in the U.K. show.

But michael is so incredibly unintentionally rude.

He thinks stanley is a gangster because he is black...

When he was trying to start dating he openly told the woman she was ugly...

yeah that's true.... I don't know.. you just have to see the UK one.  Michael is sooo tame compared to david.  David is almost a scumbag when he says some of the shit he says.

Its true. I usually don't get too into any show, but I have to admit I'm a little too big of an office fan. Ive seen every episode at least a couple times , own seasons 1-3 on DVD, and have most of 4 on my computer.

I love michael picking on Toby

Can someone find any parts on the UK version that are considered funny? I've been looking on my own and haven't even cracked a smile with what I've found. I'm sorry, but I just haven't laughed. It's like the Family Guy skit about this "humour".

This is a massive sterotype, and i don't fully believe it myself, but i don't think Americans understand British humour (mainly sarcasm).

Ergo, the Office (UK) wouldn't be as appealing to Americans.

To be fair:

IMO a single clip of the US one isn't going to be amazing by it self either. Part of it really comes from an overall understanding of the show. The characters are so deep and typical of themselves that I think it takes really knowing the characters to really appreciate the nuance..

A 12 second clip not making you crack up just means that it doesn't have any stupid one liners, which is fine with me.

I haven't seen the UK version so I can't really say, but take the clip I posted above.

Its really just Michael pushing Toby's stuff off the table...funny, but meh. Really does not achieve its true greatness unless you are familiar with the relationship of the characters: the position Michael must be in to ever even want to sit with toby, how he doesn't want to but he is so humiliated that its really almost lowering himself in his own eyes to have to seek toby's companionship...That Toby is willing to set aside Michael's constant and undeserved criticisms to be there for him, and that in the end Michael see's being open with Toby as being as pathetic as he would describe him and escapes the situation the only way he can.
