I seriously doubt anything will happen.
Not unless they legislate 50% ethanol or something insane (which, on top of making fuel cheaper directly, has the bonus of starving people thereby meaning less people are alive = less demand for oil!)

No appreciable change either way.
You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

Yea gas prices might go down but I am not ready to see 70% of all food jump 2 to 3 times the price it currently is.Spark wrote:

No appreciable change, as neither the President nor their party controls (or really affects) gas prices.

Gas prices will almost certainly continue to rise, however the President has no real effect on this.
EDIT: That said, starting a war in a major oil producing country would affect it.

Taking war out of the middle east might well have some effect, not threatening Iran might help also.
Fuck Israel
When has anyone threatened Iran? I mean, other than the EU and GCC saying the US isn't being tough enough with them?Dilbert_X wrote:

And good luck "taking war out of the middle east". It's only been full of war for the past thousand years or so.

This isn't a party thing -- it's a world demand thing. Gas is rising because more people are consuming more of it.
The only way that a Democrat president may cause the gas prices to rise faster than normal is if the party really pushes this windfall profits tax idea. Taxing oil companies more isn't going to help things any.
Instead of raising taxes, we should instead end all tax breaks for oil exploration. Oil companies are obviously making enough money to fund their own drilling and research. Tax money should not be involved in this.

The president will have to improve the value of the dollar in order to improve gas prices. That's all there is to it.
I think it's time for a new economical boom similar to what Roosevelt did in the 30's (is that right?). I think farming is a good start...produce food like a mofo, make the USA the food capital of the world and export like mad until there's no deficit with any nation. Fatten everyone up on our wheat, corn, rice, and beans!
With fuel and food being the most important things, and likely sources of contention and warfare in the future...we can't afford not to capitalize on at least one of them. The problem is...if we own such a distinction, we'll have to be able to defend our nation from the Chinese or Indians...since we all know they'd easily attack us for food as we've attacked the middle east to capitalize on fuel.
