No, but yes. You can have several clients (windows) open at the same time. I have two accounts for this purpose, at one time I had 5.

2) In some big PDF guide thing I was reading there was a very brief mention of the methods of getting ore to and from your mining ships to stations. The most common method is apparently "jet canning" (or something like that, it was late) where you jettison all of your mined ore into a capsule that from all I can work out (and this is where I get a little lost as the guide didn't offer much in the way of explanation) is near infinite in size. Am I all wrong on this or is it roughly accurate.
It's not infinite at all, and anyone can just take what's inside. You can have a hauler alt (that is a separate account) and not worry about it. You do have infinite jet cans though, they take like 2 minutes to "respawn" inside your ship.

3) I have heard a lot about "hauling" and "haulers" however as a trial account I can't use them apparently, while I've done quite a lot of searching I have been able to find out very little. From my understanding you basically use certain ship types (I at first though the Badger was one but mebe not) to take the jettisoned cargo "thing" full of ore and drag it back to the station of your choosing. Again if someone could give me a quick outline on that I'd appreciate it (If you haven't figured it out I quite like the idea of being involved in the whole large scale mining side of things one way or another).
Yup, haulers are called industrials in game. They have large cargohold and pretty much no defense/offense, and you use them to grab large amounts of stuff at one time.

4) Are there Corps out there who are willing to take what might be (I honestly don't know) a bit of a risk on someone like myself who is smart enough to learn the ins and outs of the game but currently has little to no clue?
There are corps out there everywhere who will take you. I'd be willing to help you out personally, but I don't really run a "corp". I was thinking about making a holding one for me and my alt. If not I can probably find one who would take you on recommendation.

What follows will probobly seem like very noobish questions (because well... they are) but as I tend to go all out with these kinda things I want to know what's going to happen in the long run. Also I apologies if I use too many WoW comparisions as it's the MMO I "grew up on" in terms of the genre.

In an effort to alleviate boredom now that I don't have to work crazy hours any more and without transgressing back into raiding in WoW I have decided to look into EVE. A couple of days ago I started the free trial gig on steam and like I'm sure many new comers to EVE, I feel a touch lost in the enormity of it all. Again I presume this is fairly normal and like every MMO the more you play the more you learn (although in a more brutal fashion as I've heard the EVE learning structure referred to as a cliff rather than a curve).

I guess my main questions are more based around the potential of the game rather than more base stuff (although I presume Merlin>Condor? as I'm just flying somewhere to sort that out now) so I'll do this in a list as it seems best.

1) I have been led to believe that some skills can take upwards of months to train and that's fine but at some point along the progression line are you ever allowed to operate your own fleet (as in multiple ships all under your own control rather than the in-game [similar to say the WoW group/raid system] say for instance a giant self contained mining fleet or am I "limited" to only doing this in a corp or group of people? Next two are kinda linked

I'll cut this short for now but any help would be appreciated.
All pretty common questions.

some skills do take months to train. But they are usually specialised and pretty far up the skill training tree. I have had my account for a year now and been playing pretty solidly since may, and I may have only come across 1 or 2 month long skills, and I decided they weren't worth it to train, due to weighing up the benefits to the training times. In fact I have been trying to get my standard fitting certification and at level 5 they only take 10-12 days depending on attributes.

No, you can't control NPCs, the only "NPC' things that you can control are drones. Miners do get miner drones, but they aren't the awesome barges you are hoping for. They are just drones that mine 75m3 per cycle and get popped easy. You also get sentry drones and fighter drones and repair drones and ECM drones and drones for just about anything, but again that is further down the track.

Jetcanning is a very efficient way of mining. Each jettison can holds 27,500m3 of stuff (I think), where as your beginning ships only hold about 400m3 of stuff. It is not good to do this with other players in the belt, as they can come and take the ore out. I often like to make an alt and go around stealing cans. If they take the bait they shoot, and I can shoot back without getting in trouble from the police -  CONCORD'd. Always good for lulz. It is best if you find a nice quiet system, you can fill up the can, go back to station, grab a hauler and pick it all up in just a couple trips.

Yes, a badger is a hauler, I fly Iterons in my trades, but thats just because Gallente have one at every level of the Industrial skill, unlike the other races, and the Iteron MK V is the biggest of the industrials. Then you get blockade runners and freighters and jump freighters, but again, they are all further down the line.

Ofcourse there are corporations out there willing to take you. Miners are always being recruited into industrial corporations, and get quite a big payback from corp mining ops, especially when they get some skills behind them.

Hope I answered some questions, I have some guides I could send you if you want, I actually have quite a good mining guide.

And if you think the PDF you read was confusing, one the BF2s'ers sent me a PDF on grid manipulation Once you read through it you realise how simple it is, but when you open it up it is like hitting a brick wall.

kay i just hopped back in out of boredom.

left my noobish character a long time ago. what skills should i train for? im still elligible for my noobie-skill training bonus.

atm all my learning is at rank4, with 'learning' itself at rank5. have basic core, armor and gunnery certificates. flying an amarr frigate... punisher i think. still doing the first epic arc. utterly, predictably directionless. a training plan or something to aim for would be nice, i suppose-- towards getting a better all-round mission runner. i need something to generate ISK.

Noobie skill training bonus is 1.6m SP.

Hmm. If you want to make money, depends on how you want to do it. I'm guessing mining and trading is out for you. Missioning is a possibility, and you probably wouldn't be able to rat above mission rewards yet. Hmm. Do you want to stick to Amarr? Have you tried plexing?

Easiest thing I've found to keep skills going is to find the ship I want, open up the recommended certifications, and train for those. Once you get those, you will fly the ship great and a lot better than the noobs that just train a bit here and there and have skills all over the place like I did when I started. Also, assuming you want to get into pvp and your current ship is holding out, have a look through the amarr ships and find what role you would want to fill. Eg, I am training for a stealth bomber atm. You might want to tackle, or maybe be the DPS of the gang, snipe, electronic warfare whatever. Have a look, find a purrty ship that you think you would enjoy and set that as your goal.

Atm, while my main is training for the stealth bomber he is stuck in a pretty tricky area, so he isn't being played as much atm, so my alt is trading to make me my iskies. Not doing too bad, almost have as much as my main now, but my main has been getting poor Not bad from starting from scratch with no trading skills

And I know that you are more than aware about the bump. Even when I make a new character I hit it and it takes a lot to keep playing, and I'm expecting it. Have a talk to the BF2s guys and see fi you can join their corp, I know PMS is looking for members for his PVP corp, and you could get out there in a pvp frig almost instantly and get some kills. And do some missions in a clone with implants or something when there is no action, to keep your reserves up.

1)The way of the Merlin is the top frigate. But for PvE you tend to go down the missile line which is Kestrel > Caracal > Drake > Raven > Golem
2)Depending on the container size it can be up to 120.000m3, normal cans have 27.000m3 volume.
3)Picking up cans can only be done by Industrials and their T2 variants, Orca's and the Rorqual (in terms of size). Freighters can't pick up stuff in space.
4)There are corporations who will do that. But you'd best stick along with the noob corps (no tax payments) until you can fly some PvP or have enough isk to take missioning/gameplay to a higher level.

Yeah, they are really mad that we are seiging their historical home system again. Until we took it for the first time a few months ago it was the longest standing continuous sov system in eve, they held it for 3.5 years if I remember correctly.

true but this time, no uaxdeath, no nync (lol), no mactep - although they still might show up anyway.

nync is our ally now and mactep is neutral to everyone it seems. Every time uaxdeath shows up to support RA his fleets die in fire along with their aweful setup fleets, so far he hasn't been that active in the area.

Just to put it into perspective a 100 man Ra/pets fleet will usually have this kinda composition: 30 Ravens, 20 Drakes, 20 other assorted snipe bs, 20 crappy fit cruisers/battlecruisers and 10 t1 frigs. Most pilots in their fleets are under a year old, and not many have been with RA/pets for over 6 months.

Ra now looks absolutely nothing like the Ra who won back insmother from only one remaining system a few years ago. Its pretty sad tbh.

The most any skill takes to train is titan 5 which is a 16x skill and it will take you about 52 days with maxed attributes.

oh lulz, no idea i aint been on enough over the last week to follow the goings on, i hear you lost your jammer in 9-4 though, evoke have a handy enough POS up in system last i saw. defailnt tee bee H.

plus i just wander around losing drakes/mantis, i cant stand big fleet fights urgh

@ zique, missions will burn you out, but when you get to level 4s its a very easy way of making a lot of isk very fast. or if your like adams looking for an alternative source of income you could look into playing the market, makes for more of an afk income, but just as boring (if not more) than mining or missioning. but you can make insane amounts of isk working la markets.

Well, I stopped playing this game for a really long time.  Probably because of how bored I kept getting.  It was just missions over and over...

So now I started up again, and I'm wondering, what else can I try in this game that could be fun?  The main reason I started playing was because of this video:

However, I don't think anything like that will happen anytime soon.

HaiBai that doesn't happen often  on that scale, but happens all the time on a much smaller scale. Most corps don't just let a stranger roll with a corp patrol. You know, spies 'n stuff.
