New Build Problem (Nehalem)

I have a new build thought of this summer consisting of a Q9450, 780i, GTS 512, and so on. Problem is, Nahalem sounds like it's going to kill LGA775 in performance. I wouldn't want to wait until next year, but if it's going to be as good as 'they' say, then I don't know.

Should I wait for Nehalem? or just go ahead, and upgrade when the second version comes out?

I could not get the Q9450, and just use my E6300 in a 780i, then step up to Nvidia's LGA1366 Mobo?

I know waiting for tech is bad, but this seems big, and don't want to waste money.

It's what I'm doing...the performance jump from my E6600 to the Q9450 just isn't big enough for me to upgrade. Plus, I'd need to get a new mobo AGAIN in order to get a Nehalem chip. No thanks.

Well, it depends on your needs. If your current system is good enough to last you a while more, wait for it, it can't be that urgent if you've got a decent system. If your system is totally and completely shit (Read: 3200+ and a GeForce 6600), get a half-decent graphics card and CPU to get you there. Nehalem seems big indeed, but how it really performs remains to see.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Agreed. I specifically skimped on a new build I am going to work on when I get back from the states because of the gear that is due out later in the year (though, the lack of PC games this summer and autumn had a lot to do with it too).

Get an E8400/Q6600, P35 mobo and an 8800GT will suffice fine for the time being with the exception of crysis.

Your CPU is a little tad slow, but not even my P4 is causing any major bottleneck for my 3870 in even Crysis. Only thing it really impacts on is 3DMark scores, but that's about all it does for gaming.

I mainly want to upgrade, because currently I have an OEM. I've been upgrading it for the past year and a half.

I can take a $300 hit, so I guess I'll take my E6300, and a 780i and wait. If there is a slim chance that Nvidia will release an LGA1366 mobo in October, that'd be even better. (EVGA step up)

Even better, even If I don't get a chance to sell my future 780i when Nehalem comes out, my birthday and Christmas are within two weeks of each other, I'll be able to buy a new mobo and proc with that money alone.

Any news of the nforce LGA1366? I'm wondering if it would finally be good enough nforce board for me... because it looks like I'm going with nv card(s) next time.
I heard about Intel Tylersburg chipset being ready for Nehalem but nvidia keeps low profile...

I don't know. I'll already have my twin GTS's by then. So I'll probably be getting an Nforce board. If not, I'll just step up to a 9900, and get an Intel chipset.
