"A German court on Wednesday ruled that a Muslim student cannot skip co-ed swimming lessons because her religion prohibits form-fitting clothes that do not cover her body, The Local reported.

The 12-year-old girl’s parents sued a school in the northern city of Remscheid after it refused to let the girl skip the lessons. The court sided with the school, saying that the state’s responsibility to educate the girl outweighed an infringement on her religious freedom.

Last year the girl’s parents rejected an offer from the school saying she could swim in leggings and a T-shirt. They argued that her body still would be visible through wet clothes, The Local reported.

The court concluded that because the swim lessons take place in water, there would be very little time that her body would be seen.

The parents’ attorney said the family will appeal the decision"

Germany seems to not be the place to live if you place any value on your religious beliefs or personal freedom.  Where the fuck does a government get off forcing someone to swim ( or I assume fail in school ).  Give me a break.

No, Germany has a handle on the runaway political correctness train.

That's how the thread title should read.

I saw that on Drudge or FOX NEWS (HAHA).  I think this is absurd.  If her parents don't want her to go swimming then they need to get her into a Private school that does not have swimming in its curriculum.   The fact that the school has tried to accommodate here with "leggings" illustrates that they did try to compromise.  Odd too, for isn't the Muslim religion all about compromise, rationality & flexibility?  Oh wait, that was my wife I was thinking about....

This reminds me of the Muslim woman who wouldn't take off her head curtain for a pic at the Driver's license Office.  She sued, and lost.  I dunno if she ended up with a drivers' license.  Kinda odd situation for I thought the hardliner muslims don't let women drive.

Apparently the Amish all ready tackled this one:

Yeah, Oregon is pretty bad also.  I find it shocking to hear about courts forcing someone to swim in a free society.  You would expect this from a Muslim country or a Communist society.

Honestly all a student should have to say is ' I don't feel confortable getting wet with a bunch of boys and I will not take your swim class " IMO.

What vested interest is it of the state if someone swims vs does other PE activities.

What if they were Huderite or Amish?  Religion doesn't matter in this at all.  Someone should not be force to be uncomfortable for no reason what so ever.  Let her run in circles on a track or ride a stationary bike.

Atleast it's not fucking Saudi Arabia.  Maybe the girl will grow up to be more secular when she learns that modern clothes are okay and her parents are shitheads.

How is Germany wrong here? You fail Lotta_Drool. All these Muslim people complain about everything, they should either shut up, or leave, it's not that hard of a decision. Laws in the West don't have to cater to the damn Koran.

This is not getting pork removed from the school lunch program trying to force the school to segregate the boys and girls from swimming together, this was simply declining to participate in a pointless low value school activity that clearly would be against the belief system of the family and could very well make a little girl very self conscious and uncomfortable.  All the school had to do is say, 'OK, she can ride the stationary bike or report to a nonswimming PE class instead.".

What is the huge deal here.  Is this school ran by Swim Nazis or something?

Funny you should say that but he's actually in Germany right now and oddly he says he's loving it and that Germany is better than the US. Perhaps he is having a nervous breakdown...
