Karma to the first person who can name where that title came from.
Business: I've been asked over the course of several past days how to turn off the click noise that 'My Computer' makes when clicking through folders, or whenever IE accesses a new link, with or without your input. After some confusion (which is why I decided to post it here) over the line, I found out what was going on.
Well, it seems that a Windows update, as far as I can tell, added this noise as a cute upgrade. I never really noticed it until it started getting mentioned, but if you go into your 'control panel' and 'sounds and audio devices,' hit the 'sounds' tab. Even if you have the scheme set to no sounds, scroll down the list anyway until you find the Windows Explorer category and you'll find an item called 'Start Navigation.' Set that to no (None) and you'll be back to blessed silence in no time.
Why Microsoft decided to slip that in (and past user-specified preference for silence), I don't know. I certainly didn't see 'annoying clickity noise' in their updates, but at least this, unlike so many 'doze-inspired headaches, is an easy fix.
