Crowbar, or axe. Chainsaw = obsolete. You have to keep putting gas in it, when you run out of gas, fail. Shotgun = obsolete. When you run out of ammo you are screwed.

actually M14 or ak47 would be far superior to the M4/16

bigger bullets, although a little harder to shoot, and far more reliable
bury them underground if need be, and the ak should still work with minimal cleaning

ammo would be a bit heavier i guess, but the reliability is worth it

everyone says shotgun but a shotgun would be in no way an ideal weapon

at close range it will work well against groups of zombies, because it can simply shred them

but at any distance you will be entirely ineffective

you'd be better off taking a .22 hunting rifle along with you and a bunch of rounds for long range stuff, and leave the ax behind at a shelter if you can

I'm actually being realistic. My options would be one of three .22 rifles (not good for killing humans/zombies), a .30 caliber Luger, a Mossberg 500, or a Remington 870 riot shotgun.

In the event of a zombie apocalypse, from my residence I would take the 870, a metal baseball bat, a hatchet, and the Luger.
