That's not really being racist - it's being out of touch with what is socially accepted nowadays. The same way they aren't "hip" with socially accepted terms such as googling and other new/slang words.
On a side note: "African American" is a totally bogus term.

@the OP
Totally agree with you, this should be on the news at the very least. However, I think the reason he isn't distancing himself is because he hasn't had to, as this hasn't really been shown on the news...

How many were ageists?
Probably a lot of them are ageists.  In many cases, older people are the ones that push most vociferously for things like the raising of the drinking age and increased restrictions on young drivers.

If anything, there is far more ageism against the young than there is against the old.

Meh, by the standards of their time they aren't racist but by modern standards they are.

Hagee isn't McCain's pastor. He's a pastor who has endored McCain. That is a key difference.

Yes, but Rod Parsley is a close personal friend of McCain.  Parsley being the main figure in the video shown in this thread.

While religion tends to disgust me, I don't say things like "Christianity should be destroyed."  So maybe you could say I'm prejudiced towards religion, but I'm not interested in killing anyone over it (unlike Rod Parsley apparently).

On a slightly different note, does any else think his surname makes him sound somewhat ridiculous? Like he should be a character in The Herbs...

OK. Now having had a chance to watch it...here's why it's different:

Obama's preacher railed against America.
This guy (NOT McCain's pastor, BTW...McCain's from Arizona, this guy's in Ohio) railed against Islam.

If McCain were running for President of the Islamic States of America, it might be a parallel. It's not.

“Islam is an anti-Christ religion that intends, though violence, to conquer the world.”
Yep, and not racist.

“The fact is that America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed.”
Hmmm, no.  Racist comment?  No.

“America has historically understood herself to be a bastion against Islam in the world.”
Radical Islam, yes.  Still not racist.

“In fact … I do not believe our nation can fulfill its divine purpose until we understand our historical conflict with Islam.”
I'd like to hear the whole message to understand what he's talking about, but no racism here either.

“When it comes to Islam, now the greatest religious enemy of our civilization in the world, it’s dangerous.”
Is not radical Islam the greatest religious enemy of western civilization?  Not racist to point that out.

I'm not seeing the racist or Hitler connection here guys.

Well...my sarcasm went right over his head I think...I was trying (unsuccessfully I might add) to point out how his remarks were just as biased as racism. He was stereotyping a group based on a common trait (in this case their age).

And I guess before I'm blasted...Yes, I saw he said "I haven't met..." quoting his experience. But often enough, that's what bias is formed on...personal experience.

So, it doesn't bother you that McCain has a spiritual advisor equally as nutty as Wright?  Hmm... selective reasoning here.  Nice job with the partisan politics.

If Wright was saying stuff like this instead of the stuff he currently says, he'd receive about the same amount of criticism from Fox News and right wingers.  The fact that you can't see that is rather sad, but I guess it's to be expected.

From what I've seen, it's seems fair to say the both Mccain and Obama have  ' associations ' with some nutty and outspoken  people.

I'd call it about  even on that count and I'm ready to move on to issues.

That point there is very silly. Islam as a religion worships Christ as one of the most important prophets. They have nothing against Christ.

thats like saying an atheist who believes he was a skilled carpenter believes in Christ. they worship him, yes, but not in the same way; he's not the son of god to them. essentially, being anti-Christ means you don't believe in Christ as the savior of the human race/son of God.
