Naturally, I'm recommending the one I recently bought for my s939. Cheap, quiet, effective.

Scythe Mine Rev. B

I'm not sure what the real tech-peeps say here, but IMO it was a good value for the money.

And yes, it should be Socket 478 compatible. $39
I need around tree fiddy.

qft, what are you thinking?  perhaps you're replacing an old cpu, but why do you need the aftermarket cooler?

it's a socket 478 mobo, he'd have to get a new motherboard as well.

That cooler should do pretty nicely. Could probably max out the CPU keeping temps under 80.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
