  • Hmmm, should I upgrade my aftermarket HSF for a better?

I currently got an Asus Silent Square, I'm pretty happy with it, keeps my E6600 @ 3.42 GHz under 50°C idle, but a TR Ultra 120 Extreme is much better, but the question is, is it worth it? The one I've got now does it's job alright, I can't get my E6600 over 3.42, even at 1.5 vcore so I guess I really don't need it.

What about the future? I don't plan on upgrading until nehalem comes out, and I guess I need a special 1366 socket cooler for that?

What do you think?

well, 50C idle is a little hot.  i would go for something under 40C, or maybe 35.

compare the HS you have now to the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme on FrostyTech's charts.  note the differences in temps (on low speeds and high).  if the TR is THAT much better than the Silent Square, then i would go for the TR - then maybe you'd be able to OC a little moar.

stick with what you got. Nehalems will need new coolers. Last thing you want is to waste your money on 775 cooler now.

As I said in my post, my chip won't go higher, no matter how much I raise it.

@Panzer = Yep, I think I'll do that.
