The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

ok, so what exactly did you do?  how did you "hack" your school network?

Set up a keylogger on one of the pcs, logged out and got a teacher to log in then got their username and pass. then i logged into the staff network drives, had acces to the register to register me in, passwords, all the letters they send home, emails. seemed like a good idea at the time.

Thats only on ghetto networks, my old highschools firewall stuff was on the connection itself, not the network, so anything connecting to the schools network was (be it various browsers, someone laptop, whatever) subject to the firewall.  Really annoying as our PC is our electronics class werent connected to the network framework(didnt have to login or anything) but still had to deal with the firewall.

One way is Anonymizer, worked great on our machines till they caught up with us, slowly they kept banning all our proxies

Another way would be to take the computer out of the domain   Internet might not work though, and Im almost certain thats against your schools policy.

figure out the ip adress and type that in the adress bar.  works everywhere, every time.  google can help you find out the ip adress.

i guess i should add "from my experience."  worked in my school, my friend's brother's university, and my dad's work.  i doubt they were using the same firewall, so i kind of assume it should work everywhere.

maybe a really old software package restricted by hostname instead of IP.  but in today's dynamic IP world, firewall rules need to be rooted very firmly in the DNS reverse lookup protocol of the internet.

Pfft, modern day, this doesn't work hardly anywhere.

All domain names are translated by a system called "DNS" into a IP address.

e.g http://forums.bf2s.com is actually 123.3.54.132 (not rly... but you get the point)

When you request a website, your computer sends an DNS request to the specified DNS server asking for the IP for the domain name you have just typed in.

The DNS server (which will be the company DNS server) will be set up to "block" any DNS requests for certain domains.

However, this is easily exploited, because you can completely bypass this system by typing in the IP of the server straight away, so no DNS request needs to be made, or you can change your DNS server to someone else.

Usually now, you get content filtering systems that actually look at the content of the webpage, as well as the URL to scan for blocked words etc- which is far harder to get past.

most current firewall software uses a reverse lookup of the IP against a "black list" of domains, in addition to content filtering.
