How am I coping? I'm making rediculous amounts of money from my oil stocks, and I own a bmw 530xi, which costs 60 dollars to fill up, so my gain is vastly out weighing my expenditures.

Its simple: Weak dollar + irrelevant oil demand + gas companies greed = high gas prices.
*fixed

The demand for fuel has gone down (very little though) and yet prices are still going up.

What happened was I was typing from my iphone, i typed the first message, and when i submitted it didn't go through, the connection is slow, so then i just pressed back, and had to retype it, and didn't remember exactly what I had typed the first time, so I did it again. Now that I see the first one went through, I deleted it. I'm glad you cared so much to call me a prick, like that even means anything to me, lol.

Here is the way I see it.  Our countries(US) strongest strength is our economy... So whats the best way to bring down a giant like us?  Hit us were it hurts the most our pocket books.  Our economy runs on oil/gas and when its costing so much money to get products from point a to point b.  Boom there you go!

if you noobs havent figured it out, the reason why gas is soo high is because

a) the oil executives are busy making too much money for something they know in their little ass brain that would run out 5-10 years from now
b) the oil executives havent made a new refinery/ rig in several decades to ease the pressure
c) gas is soo high because of the "war tax of  iraq war" blame the two oil men running the whitehouse ( im sorry its oilhouse)
d) very little development in alternative fuels which will decrease our need for oil, thus increasing available supply and lessen the gas prices. problem is those greedy bastards at exxon and other fat cat oil CEO's have powerful lobyist that control what goes on in the whitehouse.

That's all utter bollocks.

Oil is expensive because of rapidly growing demand from blossoming markets in the developing world. Since oil production is set to peak around 2010 (light crude anyway, and the refining costs for heavy crude make it unviable at current market rates - which is why Iran are just stockpiling their heavy crude reserves), it'll all be rapidly downhill from thereon out, since demand will have increased faster than the supply and from that point onwards the supply will be falling, whilst demand continues to grow.

If you think oil prices are bad now, you're in for a shock. They'll probably at the very least treble over the next decade.

Sorry, the reason 'gas' is so high is that people are scared it will rise. And so it does. Just like the property market, contrary to what the buyers think, they are doing it themselves. The newspaper reports oil prices are rising so people get worried and expect prices to rise, so they do. I'm not saying they will magically fall again, but it isn't just that oil is running out.

No. Just like the property market, it is a matter of supply and demand.

UK house prices are currently falling because people cannot afford to buy them (due to credit crunch and rising mortgage prices). This creates a reduced demand and means the prices fall until the market stabilises.

I wonder how high its going to be before people start stealing gas from their next door neighbors.

The reason the market is unstable is because people are worried of your two-decadely market crash. Wasn't there one 20 years ago? And 20 years before that? Now, people take it as it comes like that - ie, it'll happen every 20 years. I was watching the news earlier when they asked some randomer on the street about what he thought of this and he said "don't buy, just rent. the market is going to crash!" - it's this that causes the crash.

Fucking oil. I love how our world is built upon it and within 7-8 years, one fucking commodity is fucking the economy up. I think the people to blame are the dumb fucks that never had any foresight to see that oil will one day run out.

The only way we're coping is I drive a new route to work (takes off 35 miles/week), drive slower, only use one car during the week (and the other on the weekend) and we don't eat out, unless is extremely cheap ($1 menu).

We're on a budget and buying a house. Fucking hell.
