I seem to get in a lot of controversy (I wonder why ) whenever I show my support for wireless. Right now, I'm using a wonderful wireless mouse (Logitech LX7) and a wireless keyboard (BTC 9029). I've had the mouse for at least 3 weeks now and the batteries are still shown as "good" (what they were when I first used them) - my brother has the same mouse and he didn't change his batteries until 2 months after they got about 15 hours of use a day. I've had this keyboard for over 6 months and I've only changed 2 out of the 4 batteries that it requires as I needed to get some with a good life span!

Why is everyone so anti-wireless?

The main thing I hate about wireless is the response time difference.  But on keyboards I honestly can't tell, and with wireless gaming mice like the G7, there is nearly no difference (to me).

It's only when someone uses a cheap wireless mouse that lags like hell that I get mad.

Wireless internet, however...

My LX7 cost me £10. It has a decent DPI, 4 hot buttons on the mouse and it is 3 click w/ wheel. Can be used on a lefty like me too Love it!

I find Wireless mice too heavy (even minus their weights, if they have any) and it just slows my movements down. Performance-wise, I've seen no difference.

However, I just don't see the point in a wireless keyboard. It's not like you're going to get the cord tangled with it stationary on the desk.

I'm all fine with wireless, bar the fucking routers.

They suck.

I have a G7, it is wonderful, except the fact that my batteries are taking a shit and only last 1 or 2 days at this point.

Everyone fucking slags off wireless internet so much.

I have been using wireless internet for over a year and a half now, never had a problems with it and I get an extra boost of like 20kb if I connect it wired to the router. This may because I spent a lot of money on the router I have when I could have bought one for less than half the price.

People slag it off IMO because they have a cheap ass router and they get d/c from it often. I have never once been d/c from my router.

If you were wondering what one I have it is this cool one :

That is a bit excessive I spent £100. I am sure you can pick up the same package for about $120.

What one router do you have? Sounds epic fail to me if you spent $400 and it gets you d/c.

Well sounds shit to me. I researched a lot into it and and looked at a lot of reviews before I decided. And the internal 8 antennas just seemed to be and seemed impossible to fail. And that choice I made was correct. I would 100% recommend that router or Netgear.

When did you buy your router? If it has been a while I would buy a new one.

its only about a year old, but my issues arent with disconnects exactly.

for awhile, ONLY limewire and instant messenger programs were the only things that would connect on the wireless PC.
everything connected fine on the wired PC, and after about six months of bothering people on xfire for solutions i decided to call linksys.

i talked to some guy that called himself "Phil" in india at linksys, and he walked me through their stupid trouble shooting page.
THEY didnt even fix it....i decided to do a system restore on BOTH PCs, reinstall all the linksys hardware and drivers, and now it works.

im getting ready to move, and when i do.....no more wireless for me, so the problem will be solved...hopefully lol

wireless = more packet loss.
More packet loss is less secure and less reliable.

For keyboards, if you are paranoid, people can packet-sniff and therefor have a wireless keylogger sniffer.
About reliable, I've seen a mouse once going crazy upon wireless. But that was a long time ago, most do react well.

Most annoying thing in my opinion is the battery switching, even if it's "only" every two months. Not sure about you but we don't have many batteries in the house, having 3 computers, with 4 batteries (2 mouse, 2 keyboard) that means you need 12 batteries every two months. That's ridiculously expensive and just annoying when you're doing something (especially online games) and your mouse decides to die on you, then you have to run through the whole house finding batteries, not finding one, realizing it's sunday and all stores are close

So if you're using a desktop, and you're not gonna watch the screen from your bed or something, just stick with cable. Lot less expensive in the end, in theory a little more responsive and reliable.

Wireless internet is more annoying with the packet loss and insecurity

I haven't been satisfied with any of the wireless peripherals I've used. Especially the mice have bothered me with the slight latency issues I've run into. I'm doing fine with wired keyboards and mice.

As for wireless network connectivity, I still prefer it wired for most situations. I hop on WiFi or HSDPA with my laptop and cell phone, because they're mobile secondary devices, and it suits the purpose well. I won't use wireless on anything stationary if I can get away with it.

i like how kyle was talking about wireless peripherals and this turned into a wireless networking debate

right about here to be exact:

Actually I don't like wireless stuff either. I just wanted to make sure I had some backing before I gave my position.

I use wireless networking out of necessity(i.e. Tivo, Wii, PS3). As far as wireless stuff goes for the main PC (sitting at  a desk), its a novelty in my opinion. Not to mention you are creating waste.
