Lately, I've been having trouble with CS:S. It will join a server, and then freeze. I can move the mouse, but nothing works. Ctrl+Alt+del does nothing, alt+tab does nothing, and alt+F4 does nothing. I have to restart the computer to make it work again.

Is there anything that I can press that will bring me back to the desktop when something like this happens, and is guaranteed to work everytime?

Probably not.
I don't know if it is possible, but try to run the game in windowed mode and see what happens. (Error messages and such)

And time since last undusting.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Yeah run it in windowed mode so you can see any error messages and you won't have to minimize when it freezes.  Just do it temporarily so you can fix the problem.

How do I do this?
@DU: It runs at 66C under load, so it's not overheating.

Get Orthos and run it for a couple of hours to see if the CPU has faults.

Shouldnt it be a problem with the game, not my computer?

You never know, especially since reinstall didn't help.

The game works fine, loads up fine, loads the server and map just fine, but right when I get in, it freezes. I get the mouse with the time thing, and when i ctrl+alt+del, I can move my mouse around and I can notice that there is the task manager in the background.

How do I run in windowed mode?

Right click on the CSS executable or shortcut, go to properties, and under the General tab there should be an option to run in windowed mode.

Looks like a problem with 3d, try re installing your GFX drivers, or keeping it on stock clocks.

I had a similar problem with Ao3 (lol) turns out I had to revert to older drivers.

In as much as you can guarantee anything on a PC, yes, it's called the 'reset' (you may know it as 'restart', or, if you've got a crap case, 'power') button.

I'm running it in windowed mode, and voila, it works. Stupid, good for nothing computers.
