The EU and Russia will negotiate these days a new partnership agreement which will include Russian energy supplies.

Questions:
-Would you like Russia to become a member of the EU?
-Would it benefit the EU?  Or Russia?
-What should the requirements be for Russia to join the EU in terms of Human rights?
-What do you think the US would say about this?
-Would it make Europe more stable or unstable?

Russia would never accept EU rules...

would maybe benefit our power needs. but we got agreements for that already.

-Would you like Russia to become a member of the EU?

No, we are already (most) against Turkey joining, go figure.

+ WE HATE RUSSIAN TOURIST!

-Would it benefit the EU?  Or Russia?

neither, we already got power agreements, Russia wouldn't like Brussels sniffeling in its backyard.

-What should the requirements be for Russia to join the EU in terms of Human rights?

full democracy, also full freedom of speech

-What do you think the US would say about this?

strongly against it.

-Would it make Europe more stable or unstable?

unstable, even if they would join, they will hold back more rules with veto rule

Russia is powerful enough by itself.  You really don't want Putin sticking his hand in the EU pie.  He's a corrupt motherfucker.

Only a portion of Russia is geographically in Europe, but that part holds a large portion of their population.  It would be weird for Russia to join.

I think it would benefit both EU and Russia if they joined forces, it would evidently make the region around Russia more stable ... but i don't think it will ever happen ...

Not sure what benefit Russia would get for joining or what they would give up by joining. They seem to be doing quite well without EU membership. Unless it would make things better in the mid- and long-term, I don't see why they should.

I actually think the US wouldn't have a problem with Russia joining the EU. That's damn near like Russia joining NATO, which would lend itself to improving relations through common goals.

Not before hell freezes over
-Would it benefit the EU?  Or Russia?
Russia since their country is so frekkin huge they would be taking most of the money and giving back the least
-What should the requirements be for Russia to join the EU in terms of Human rights?
The same human rights and democracy terms that the other EU members follow
-What do you think the US would say about this?
Who gives a flying fuck its Europe ,not america fuck off
-Would it make Europe more stable or unstable?
Unstable russia would do what they always do try and take over , and then make the EU their "soviet version2"

Ever since I saw that video about the federal reserve and this whole agenda of a one world government am totally against any kind of massive union that centralises power away from individual states (it was a good video! xD).

EU is a crock of shit anyway, it was meant for trade, not a parallel USA.

Russia would never accept to become a member. Because if they wanted to, they'd have to do it on our ( the EU's ) terms, and that's just not the Russian mentality.

From my point of view, geographically, the EU has nearly reached its maximum number of member states. A couple of eastern european states are missing, but they are already in the process of becoming member states ( serbia, croatia, macedonia and others ), and will be full members in a couple of years, provided they fulfill the criteria.

If it was up to me, turkey would not be allowed to apply. I can see the strategic advantages of having turkey as an EU member, but to me, they are simply not committed enough to liberal european values.

No way. I don't trust the Russian government - heck no one does, not even the Russians. I'd say they still have a bit left until they're up to EU standards, in terms of politics and freedom.

well, a good portion of russia lies in europe, although that would probably depend on where you draw the lines geographically.
Historically, this line has usually been drawn eastbound at the Ural mountains, and in the south between the caspian and the black sea, north of the caucasus mountains.

see pic: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f6/Europe_topography_map_de.png/737px-Europe_topography_map_de.png

Apart from that, Europe is not necessarily "just" a region. From the point of view of the EU it is more an idea ( or a group of ideas ) that its people share, and that has manifested itself in the EU.
Thus, if you subscribe to the ideals that the EU was founded on, you may consider yourself european. Some of those may be democracy, freedom, tolerance, etc... You get the idea, I guess.

Because of this kind of uncertainty regarding the actual layout of Europe on maps, some countries have roots in both Europe and neighbouring regions/continents. Russia is one of them, and also Turkey.

B.Schuss - you forgot "paying the French and the Italians money for their subsides". Very important EU ideal. The reason we swiss didn't join is because we like our money

I don't know the situation in switzerland in detail, but from what I can tell, you'd really not profit that much from joining the EU.

about the subsidies...well, tell me about it. Germany is the biggest net contributor to the EU. Not a comfortable situation, but looking at our economy, I don't think it has really hurt us much.
