I personally will be picking up two of these in December (when the prices go down) unless something better comes out for my new Nehalem rig.

Ridiculous price tbh.
I might pick up one of the old Raptors since the price is probably gonna go down.

Still too expensive for me, but nice.

Not a bad idea. Same thing essentially, just less storage.

It's just buying one of these is cheaper than buying 2 Raptors.

Since this is 2.5", could it go in a laptop
Also, looking at reviews for the old Raptor and this wins by far.

Pros: This silk bag is simply amazing. It's so soft. It also comes with a free hard drive in it that's pretty good too. But the bag, man, you gotta get one.
Cons: Silk bag has no cons.
    Other Thoughts: Silk bag.

Useless tbh.

There are cheaper drives that are faster. At 300$, it's still only 16mb cache? lawl.

Raptors were good like 3 years ago.

Rofl, that's the Raptor X, right? I remember the silk bag it came in...certainly felt a lot better than the shitty plastic my Caviar came in.

I'm hard drive shopping for a new rig. I have a Raptor in my current rig that I will be keeping intact.

So, I would love to know... which drives are faster for cheaper?

They were out in Europe for some time now but 300€ is too much.

Does anyone else think that calling them 'VelociRaptors' is really cheesy?

Pretty much any good brand large(ish) drive.  Am not so well versed in hard drives, but from my understanding you are better having a large hard drive with proportionatly little on it (say less than 30%), than a raptor that is say 60% full.

Also, the Samsung Spinpoint is a very fast drive too.

The Raptor has fast access times, annnd thats about it.

I have a Raptor, and I have a Seagate Barracuda, and I can't tell the difference.

If you want utter speed, get SSD. Raptors aren't worth the money.
