As an Airplane?

STORY.

Just randonmly, during last period, this one friend of mine's like "Hmmm, Imagine in ______(Really large number) of years, busses would fly"

Then I'm like "Uhmmm...yeah, they already have those, they call em AIRPLANES"

He's like NO.

By this point, a bunch of other people take his side, and claim that an AIRBUS is NOT the same thing as a AIRPLANE

When I ask them to prove it...well, they can't.

Most common excuse.

"A street bus travels within a city, planes go between cities"
Countered by mentioning GreyHound Buses

So.

A flying bus is the same thing as an Airplane.

That's my statement, prove me wrong.

I guess so, assuming it's got a design like an airplane. It'd just be used for shuttle service rather than longer flights.

no an airbus is a bus that flies threw the air, and airplain is a plain flies threw the air

Bleh, the post turned into a ramble

Point is, they claimed the an "Airbus" ISN'T the same thing as an airplane, which it is.

An AIRBUS is the same thing as an AIRPLANE(ignore the fact that the leading/second largest MFGR, thus proving my point)

It's all relative. You could say a bus is a ferry with wheels, or a bus is a bigger carpool.

Technically, you're right...but so are they. Busses require less fuel, less effort and cost a lot less than airplanes. Especially nowadays.

Planing (sailing), a method of travelling quickly across water by using speed to lift the hull out of the water

Add air to that. That is the principle behind the original airplane. Therefore the point is mute. Its a method of movement. A flying vehicle that doesn't use air flow over a wing isn't an airplane. So he is kinda right.

Airbus is a European manufacturer of airplanes. E.g. they make airplanes, meaning they are related, but not the same. All Airbuses (airplanes made by Airbus) are airplanes, but not the other way around. I can't be bothered making a Venn diagram or anything like that, but suffice it to say that, for example, the McDonnell Douglas F-15 isn't very good at busing people around. And it's not made by Airbus. But it's still an airplane.

Then again, feel agree to ignore me. It's the Internets, after all...

Edit: No, using airbus as a generic term for an airliner doesn't work either, see above.
