What is the point of criticising the, or any, government any more?

For every accusation there is an expert on the other side to refute it.

If you dont like the argument u just say "right wing propaganda" or "left wing tripe"

Spin machines are working 24/7.

Rarely does a politician stand up and say "hey I was wrong" or "yes, my opponent is right"

The media have to take some of the blame on this as do the politicians.

Governments provide as little information as possible to try and control what we are thinking. Barring military secrets, we the people, should know as much as the government.
