Researchers at the University of Antwerp in Belgium have created a new supercomputer with standard gaming hardware. The system uses four NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics cards, it costs less than 4000EUR to build and thanks to NVIDIA's CUDA technology it delivers roughly the same performance as a supercomputer cluster consisting of hundreds of PCs!

GPU's can be kinda amazing if you put your mind to it.

Read: bunch of students who want a beastly gaming pc but want their university to fund it as a 'research project'

4x 9800gx2 = rolfskilled though

4000€ ain't much for a supercomputer. Well done.

I love their cable management.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Kinda, they actually used nVidia's CUDA technology, where they linked directly to the cpu. None of the video cards are connected.

You achieved an unknown score 3D mark can't measure. Please download the newest updates from http://www.futuremark.com/ to fix your problem.

none because there is no real drivers for over 4 GPU systems. only for hardcore calculation like CUDA.

Crysis might be able to run on it... if they get lucky.

They have to run the system with the left side panel removed as the graphics cards would otherwise overheat but they're looking for a solution for their heat problem.
Eh..this just makes the fans useless...

Eh..this just makes the fans useless...
it does drop gfx card temps if they are overheating tho

everything else will run hotter then.

I suppose there aren't any watercooling blocks available for it.
Maybe they should use non conductive oil

then they would need a compressor to cool the oil. Imagine how nice setup that would be...

I wish our computers at school were that good. We're running on P3 with 32 megs of RAM.

Isn't that DonFck's graphics card that he's holding up in the middle?
