Turning his attention to Iran, Mr Obama said the US-led war in Iraq had emboldened the Islamic state, which posed a real, grave danger.

"My goal will be to eliminate this threat," he said.

Mr Obama said "aggressive, principled diplomacy" was needed to deal with Tehran but added that he would "always keep the threat of military action on the table to defend our security and our ally Israel".

It's pretty lame when you have to preach about your undying commitment to a country several thousand miles away and of no meaningful consequence to you or your country in order to have a shot at the presidency of your country. Lame indeed.

It's like an prospective Irish taoiseach stating that he's 'strongly committed to the security of Peru'...

PS Obama was previously involved in pro-Palestinian activities in Chicago. He, I hope, is just saying what needs to be said in order to get into office, having got into office I hope he'll 'redevelop' some semblance of impartiality/rationality.

On reading some of his comments Obama is officially a fucking idiot. On the basis of his views here I now recognise him for what he is: John Kerry. At least John McCain is what he says on the tin - an unapologetic elitist interventionist 'we are the leaders of the world' hateful cunt. Obama on the other hand is a weasel who will say whatever is expedient in terms of getting himself into office.

In short: fuck Barack Obama.

I think he wants to, but no more than you or I.  He realized he can't just bring the troops hom... er 'redeploy' the troops elsewhere, and he hasn't a clue on how to end it.  You and I have about the same, maybe more foreign policy experience than BO has.... And the American people expect him to bring us out of a war in the middle east?  They have no clue as to what they are buying into.  America really needs to wake up.

obama is two faced, bottom line. He has tweaked his game to conicide with hillary's departure, his tude has changed on war..look back a month ago with his views on iraq, iran the middle east..weeks later it changes..big fat maui FLIP FLOP.

He knows clinton is pretty much TKO for now, and needs to belly up with the likes of Mccain, hence his change.

besides i wont vote for a muslim. He has 15% zulu blood with something like 50% muslim and a mix of anglo saxon. Forget it..i want old, dried jerky mccain or touche Paul for prez.

im not racist, but get real..a freakin muslim as president?! are people freaking MAD! Maybe down the road, but this isnt the correct time for those sort of things.

One would have to be delusional to think that any presidential candidate in the US would drift from these guidelines. If there's one thing we're sure of is that Obama will not be any different in matters of foreign policy (save maybe the ultra-combative neo-con agenda), especially as far as Israel is concerned.

Essentially America is perpetually fucked on the international arena, irrespective of who leads them. Time to turn to China. They may be cunts but at least they aren't interventionist opportunists (since the days of Mao anyway). They don't interfere in the politics of other countries and regions because if they did then it would be open day on Tibet.

It's pretty sad how much control AIPAC has over the US. It's a stain on the US in terms of international opinion of them.
