Wind Power really has the potential to be huge, I think Portland is going to draw all of it's energy from renewable resources coming up in the next couple years because we're putting in another wind farm. I really hope wind power takes off -- it'd take a while to get the infrastructure together but if our next president can come up with a New Deal like proposal to stimulate the economy, set up a decent wind power program and maybe even build an oil pipeline/refinery setup if this oil field pans out, it could be a good decade for America.KILLSWITCH wrote:

You are correct. Oil will eventually run out. Yes, we should, and are, investing in alternative fuel sources. However, those methods are not all available or commercially viable for large scale use yet. We need something to keep going until they are. Thus, we still need oil. Our need for oil will not disappear overnight, even if the entire world decided tomorrow to completely switch to alternative energy sources. The only way a transition will work without a complete worldwide disruption in society is for the tradition to be gradual. A lot of our alternative energy methods may be good in 5, 10, even 20 years. First, we have to make it that far.konfusion wrote:
Either way, oil will run out, so why not invest more in research for alternative fuel sources? I've seen a video where a guy made fuel out of salt water. This is the kind of stuff we need to be focusing on, instead of grasping at the hope of being able to continue the comfortable lifestyle we have now.
