And it was the worst OS I had ever used. I was fed up with Vista Ultimate 32-bit back in the day, now with SP1, I figured I would give it another try. Bad idea

Firstly, it is fucking slow, takes forever to load the OS, well, I'll forgive that, I did expect that to happen anyway.
Secondly, my mouse and keyboard kept locking up every now and then, and the LCD on my G15 went black, flickered, and came back, that was happening constantly.
Then, randomly, a BSOD, I googled the error code, and apparently it has something to do with the 8800GTX drivers conflicting with the X-Fi drivers....
Thirdly, it was fucking annoying, a shitload of nag screens and it just felt waaay too heavy.

Conclusion: I'm going to run Ubuntu for internetz and shizzle, and use XP x64 for gaming. (Might even try Cedega and running BF2 in Ubuntu)

Before, I was neutral towards Vista, but now I officially hate it.

edit: Seeing This thread made me remember annother annoying thing about vista, it hates surround sound.

Wow, that's really funny.  I have had 0 problems so far with it.  I find it quicker than XP to load, and extremely quick to shut down (although I DO have a Q9300 instead of a X2 4200+ now, and 4GB over 2GB).

Just remembered another thing:

Couldn't install on my RAID array, could install XP x64 fine on the RAID, but when I loaded the RAID drivers for the OS in the vista setup, nothing happened, it just asked me to do the same thing again....I researched and it's a known problem with installers that have SP1 included.

It seems to me there are those lucky few that get it just right.
Im in the middle i have it as a duel boot with XP but I have a few issues with it so im waiting for them to iron out the flaw then il make the switch.

Question: If I used 2 sticks of 2gb each making 4gb total would it still show up as 3.2gb in XP 32 bit or just screw up?

First time I loaded it to my computer: same fucking problems as you PBA.
Wouldn't recognize my SATA hard drive.
Wouldn't recognize my USB headset or USB mouse.
Wouldn't install sound drivers.
FUCKING SLOW ALL ROUND.

Popped the DVD in, reformatted, now its a bloody dream.
Sorry to hear you've given up on it

I use 64 bit at work and I'm not certain where all this orgasmic reaction comes from.

Vista does have a faster bootup, but the difference is a couple seconds. (on most machines)

No.
It's hard to do a real comparison on my PC - having 3 installs of XP - all which have different boot times - but, Vista32 on my machine boots faster than (I think) all of them.

RAID array, 6 gigs of RAM, 3.5GHz Conroe, and it took ages to boot.

XP x64 boots in just a few seconds.

For my new rig, I'm going to stick Vista 64 on one hard drive and XP on the other. Any game and anything else that wasn't designed specifically with Vista in mind goes to XP. All else to Vista.

Didn't people hate XP when it came out too?

Of course.  When a new OS is released, everyone has a bone to pick with it, as naturally there are a lot of bugs.

But some people just won't stop complaining about how dumb, how stupid, how god-awful it is.

Using Vista on my laptop is so annoying. Doing basic things like opening a pdf file gives you a warning message that Adobe Reader 8 has "known compatibilty issues" along with a string of other useless warnings and errors that either mean nothing, were obvious user choices so why ask me to confirm a simple task, or just a close of the program. I boot using ubuntu on the laptop now, and my pc remains with Xp.

Thats because Vista was designed for more powerful hardware and notebook hardware just can't deliver that right now.  Maybe your high end ones but the ones general around $1200 or lower will not run that well.  However you can boost the performance a little bit if you install the 64-Bit version but for the most part it will not run well.

Disabling UAC fixes the constant, annoying popup messages/warnings.

Yea with SP1 installed UAC becomes less of an issue but its still there.

I think i'm going to pull my Vista FAQ back up.

Make sure you're using the proper vista drivers for your keyboard/mouse. I don't have any issues with my g15/mx518.

Creative's X-Fi drivers are shit.

Turn off UAC, it's a bitch.

The only real problems I have(BSOD) are due to my x-fi card(thanks creative!!).
