This is about the 4th time i've had to say this - If you wanna discuss personal problems you have with anyone, this is not the place.

I don't

SERE certainly doesn't.

People people, the whole point of the everything else section is not spam. Its for us to post topics which aren't serious news/discussion, are not game related and are generally entertaining to read or contribute to. If trackr doesn't have that, the site will be missing out on one of BF2s's biggest attractions, plus people with general questions, small problems will have nowhere to post.

Some days I come on here and see loads of closed threads, that all relate to one single thread that has been seen as stupid or emtertaining for the wrong reasons. It annoys me because it makes it harder to find the decent threads.

So stop the OTT spam and hopefully we will get somewhere to have relaxed, not too serious topics on trackr.

I think the spam is a result of boredom. 3 years of BF2s has gotten to us, and we have nothing better to do. A new introduction to trackr should help minimize this, but if we keep it up, trackr will give itself a bad reputation and it won't attract newcomers to the site.

Just a thought here, maybe a separate forum for 18+ members, no pornography though.

Bit harsh tbh.

Example, Kyle. He's not 18, but he's more mature than people 5,10 years his senior.

Plus, how are they gonna find out how old you are?

True.
I don't know then. I'll go google how to minimize spam without the use of weapons and warfare, kay?

I think it'll only ever work through responsible posting, responsible reporting and the like.

Which is what me and others are really trying to ram down peoples throats atm.

But you will never find responsible people on the internet. There are alot here, but you will never have an idiot-free forum (no offense to anyone).

A reward system might have to be developed to make people behave properly. I know rewards on the internet aren't anything to go crazy for, but people will behave better if they are recognized for their responsible actions.

With enough pressure on him/her to adapt to the way of posting, they'll either change, or leave.

Either way is beneficial to the board.

But if a bunch of people leave, there will be no use for a board. It'll be a website with 20 people running it.
Moderating just needs to become much more strict, but not strict enough to make people want to leave.

I think that for the first month or so of Trackr we should be on "lock-down mode", that is we have a three strike policy, first is an AWM, second time give temp bans (which will be extended from three days to one week during LDM) to the offneders. Third is, well you know. This way the community will get into the habit of not spamming, as they don't want to be gone for a week. While there is a chance habit might go away, if spam becomes out of control again LDM could be reinstated.

Another thing we would need is a Trackr guide in the library and one of the books is a guide to spam on Trackr. This way not only will users know the effects of spam and the reasons to keep the site clean but also they will know what is considered spam. The latter is important as some people may post something that they don't think is spam but the mods do. As spam is a vague word that reffers to allot of different things it would be important to have everyone on the same page as to what is acceptable and what is not.

We don't want to drive people away as many of them as many people who do spam sometimes are also highly capable of making the community more fun/helpful.

Oh yeah and LDM can also be applied to DST for the times it goes "Dresden".

Well this comes off a post of mine on Trackr that I didn't think of as spam but one of the mods did and gave me a three day ban for it. He don't want spam but we don't want to ban people either. This way members (and mods) will know exactly what is spam and that way they won't post it unless they are really worth banning.

Don't we already have a 3 strike policy? It obviously ins't very effective, as we have had alot of spam and alot of bans in the past few months.
The LDM as you called it should be much stricter than that, possibly even a 2 strike policy. Once you are warned, that is it. If it happens again, you are banned, and you can only create a new account after an extended period of time.

In your second paragraph, I agree with the idea that the consequences of spamming should be more accessible to all users. Everyone should have the privilege of reading the effects and consequences of spam, thus reducing their incentive to spam the forums for an excuse of entertainment.
The more knowledgeable people are about spam, the less of it will occur.

If anyone would like to start making a definition of spam I would be happy to hear any ideas. As people have said it is a very vague word, and we just go by instinct. It's not exactly fair to users you're right, but it's the only efficient way of doing it and the results are usually pretty good I think.

Forum spam probably falls under the "I know it when I see it" category.

My definition would be anything posted by a user that is unnecessary, abusive, or unrelated to the topic being discussed. It has no real meaning and is completely irrelevant. Spam is also when users post continuously until the thread is closed.
