Why not? I mean in my town we have some random Japanese restaurant off the freeway (not trying to be racist but I think they only hire Japanese people/their Japanese family members) and then a Jack in the Box or whatever. 15 minutes or so away there's a city that has more work though.

My suggestion would be to take a summer of for working somewhere "nice" I work in a camping ground each summer and besides the fact that the boss can seem abit cranky & stressed at times.. it is pretty nice.. customers are mostly happy since it is their vacation, they are relaxed and are not that much in a hurry and don't hate you from the get-go...

Work somewhere cozy, not somewhere nasty
