The crash and burn movies of the past don't work any more.  We've become to desensitized by TV, movies, and games.  It's a new generation and the rules have changed.  If this is what it takes to make them wake up to the fact that they aren't immortal ( a problem among most teens), then so be it.

So. After all this time of trying to establish themselves as sorts of role-models, school teachers and administration's going to start lying their teeth out? That's even more absurd than you think my example was. To answer your second question, it's because they're politicians. How would this entire country be if filled to the brim with political aspirants?

'Your friends just died' isn't even a white lie. It's a pathetic ruse which will only lower the impact of traffic accidents on students, once it sinks in that their school lies to sensationalize the issues. It's going to take more than a handful of 'but srsly's' to reestablish any sense of respect.

What seems to completely escape you is that the respect newbie is talking about is crucial to getting kids to follow rules.  Why should someone follow the law when those responsible for enforcing it are petty paternalists?  Why should someone put extra effort into their studies if the teachers they have are fools?

And as for the president...  Do I really need to explain how far the bar has been lowered ever since Clinton and Bush took office?

The solution to all this is more honesty and sincerity, not more deceit.

same here, but what happen to us someone spilled the beans and was telling everyone about a fake car crash but it seems that the teachers wanted to make it a real simulation but it failed epically since most of the seniors come in and out of the school as they please and were able to see the cops and volunteers set up the situation. So by the end it became a joke everyone screwed and the teachers wanted us to take it seriously... this event was a waste of money because of the set up....

For you guys who stated the first of the two:
This is a ludacris statement. Being upset over thinking that a friend has died does not make one a pussy, nor does being angry that you were duped into thinking so. Obviously the people who said this have never had somebody close to them, or even just somebody they know, die or lose them in some other way. I am in no way stupid and am definitely not a pussy, but if a teacher told me that a friend of mine died whilst I was at school, I would most likely believe them. I wouldn't sit there and question them, as I would see no reason to. Death is no laughing matter. Either you don't have a heart, have never had this experience, or are trying to look like a hardass on forum. Those are the only things I see possible.

For you "Save a life guys":
That is so much bullshit. I honestly doubt that anybody there learned anything from the experience. Some people just can't and wont learn. That is how it works. I actually believe it would have been better if a kid actually had died from a drunk driving related accident. The fact that they lied only instilled the thought of this actually happening for the time that they believed them. As soon as they heard that this was all just a big lie, I would imagine a large percentage of them thought to themselves "Oh, so it was just a joke, guess drunk driving isn't really that serious. They just wanted to scare us."

And lastly. I don't see how people can see this as being necesarry or effective. It is general knowledge amongst humans that drunk driving is not safe. This reminds me of the end of the movie Thank You For Smoking. He points out the fact that there is no need to have a skull and crossbones on cigarette packages, as it is known by all that cigarettes are dangerous. But people still smoke, even with the knowledge that cigarettes are slowly killing them. That is how dumb society is. People know that things are bad for them, yet they still do them. It is almost the technical term for insanity. So these kids know that drunk driving is bad, yet they still do it. But saying you aren't going to drive drunk while you are sober is completely different than while you are drunk. Alcohol impairs your logic, and you might think you can drive greatly, and then you end up with half a car and a couple bodybags. The only solution would either be to outlaw cars or outlaw alcohol. Neither of which would work as they would just continue doing these things illegally.

So what I'm trying to say is, this is completely pointless, as it wont change anything. People are NEVER going to stop driving drunk. People ARE going to die. People are NEVER going to stop getting drunk. And there is NOTHING anybody can do about it.

You identify the rules by the enforcement. Why? They have nothing to do with each other. Look at our government, we have completely separate branches for making law and enforcing law. People should follow the law because it's the law, and people should learn to advance their education, not because the teachers are good.

I hardly think the bar has been lowered any when it comes to moral fiber, we just get to hear more about it with the modern media.

Since when weren't teachers supposed to be role models?  An intelligent, responsible, honest teacher ought to be a role model for their students.

Resetting my dangling jaw for the moment:

a) Teachers do not have to be role models, but are encouraged to do so by administration and the classes they took to get their teaching degree. It's kinda hard to imprint data into someone's head if you don't have at least some of their respect. Of course parents should be proper role models, but you should realize how often that doesn't work out.

b) I believe, unless I remember the article wrong, that this was multiple instances of 'lying their teeth out,' if you count quantity of 'dead' students. Additionally, as said before, it is the sort of lie of the most grotesque nature.

c) You just said they weren't supposed to be role models. And here you say 'sure, lie your ass off to get what you want.' This is where our moral structure parts.

d) No, it pissed them off. And do you think all people irked by that stupid ploy are drunks who are licensed to drive?
