Anyone do them?  I've recently become addicted to them after learning how to solve a 3x3x3 cube.  Just last week a friend bought me a 4x4x4 cube and I solved it the next day.  And now today I got bored after finishing my exams and went and bought a new 5x5x5 cube, which I solved in about 3 hours working on and off on it.

Anyone else got a secret obsession with them?  They're really quite addicting once you get going...

lol, I could never finish one. I'd start and it would get too boring or frustrating. How'd you learn how to do them?

Neither could I at first, but try just watching people do it on youtube or something, they are algorithms that make it a lot easier at first

What I found way more helpful than memorizing L, U, 2D, etc was doing those algorithms but watching the pieces as I did that algorithm and recognizing where they go.  Now I dont even know what the actual algorithms are, I just know the first 2 or 3 moves of each and through logic (and a little bit of muscle memory) it just happens without even thinking.

Oh, and once you solve the 3x3x3, I recommend you try the 5x5x5 before the 4x4x4 since its actually way easier since it has fixed centres.

I hate them. I have a 3x3 one and it frustrates the hell out of me. I was tempted to remove all the colored stickers and put them all on the proper side.

One time we did that and then scrambled it...we gave it to this rubix cube pro Asian and 10 seconds later he asked what the fuck we did to it

I can solve a 3x3x3 in less that a minute, I haven't messed around with it for a while but It was a good party trick so to speak

I can never get more than one side.  I'll try to get another side without messing up the other side that I've already completed but I can never get it.  I eventually get too frustrated with the damn things to continue.

Thats how I started learning.  You actually solve layer by layer, not side by side... but learning how to do a side is good to learn since its all logic based, which a surprising amount of people cannot do.

You cheated on the first 3x3x3 cube didn't you. Those stickers show signs of having been peeled off and placed back on. Shame on you.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
I did that to my cube too lol

I never liked those tricky bastards, never really got into learning the certain patterns or layers you were supposed to look for. I remember after that one movie with Will Smith, Pursuit of Happiness, I believe, people at my school started to get into the Cube again. It was pretty funny to see people, especially the holier-than-thou groups, playing with something they'd have deemed nerdy if it weren't for the movie.

Nope, its actually from so much wear and tear.  The stickers have a clear plastic layer over top of them and thats whats wearing off

I did take it apart and put it back together and said I solved it once though

You know, I actually found this one a lot easier than the cube. It took me forever to learn how to solve the cube, forever to actually apply that knowledge and solve it (once), and I forgot it all (or a lot of it) within a few weeks.

I played with the pyramid a few times, within about 2-3 hours, got it down.

Does anyone remember the puzzle that was similar to a rubix cube but it was flat? It folded over and over. I can vaguely remember it.

NM, found it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubik%27s_Magic
I liked that one.
