My dad had both his retinas re-attached by laser surgery
he got a heavy knock playing 5-aside, then the next day when he was driving one of his retinas totally slipped, so he went half blind and smashed his landrover into a lamppost.

So he spent the next 4 weeks of his life lying face down in his bed for 50 minutes of every hour, so his eyes could heal again.

What was wrong with your eye lids?
I was born without any. Thankfully my tongue is elongated so I could lick them like a lizard does.

No not really, but the truth is far less interesting.

I'm getting it done when I'm old enough. I've been in surgery so many times for my eyes, I can't imagine this cold be any worse.

You have to be 20/50 or better (uncorrected) before entering pilot training, though.
It seems the rules are hazy on that, because I swear I've seen pilots with glasses and shit. And in this day and age with all these computers and shit, unless you live a farm life it's pretty hard to keep perfect vision (I managed until very recently, bf2s killed my eyesight , thats right, bf2s, not doing coursework)

damn u guise

But I'm guessing for things like the Air Force, you need to go in with perfect eyesight
You have to have good vision before you are eligible, BF2s did the same to my eyes, and I am starting to get worried. Once oyu are in however the eyesight can go and you can stay. Im just trying to hold out another year or so
You can wear contact lenses as a pilot (but not to correct near vision).

This is what the British Aviation Authority say about eye surgery for commercial pilots:

The CAA does not recommend refractive surgery to gain a medical certificate to fly.  The decision to
have this type of treatment must be between you and your eye specialist.  In fact the certification limits
of eye correction with glasses and the limits of refraction before surgery are the same, so it is not
possible to gain a medical certificate by having refractive surgery, that you would not have obtained by
wearing glasses.
However, if you have had refractive surgery, Class 1 certification will be considered
three months after a LASIK procedure, (provided an assessment including refraction has been carried
out at two months post-operatively).  Certification can be considered six months after LASEK/PRK for
myopia (provided an assessment is carried out at three months post-operatively at Gatwick).
is usually possible one year after other types of operation.

Please note that:

•  The pre-operative refraction should not have been more than + 5.00 to -6 dioptres.
•  An assessment by an eye specialist will be required.
•  Stability of refraction must be achieved. To show this you will need to obtain a report showing your refraction.
•  You must have no problems with glare.

He's talking about for the Air Force or Navy. For the Air Force it's 20/70 I saw and the navy is 20/50.

Do you know if getting the PRK surgery is detectable by any means?

Three times. I've had corrective surgery for strabismus twice and LASIK about two years ago. LASIK was super easy, put some drops in your eyes, wait, let the laser make the cut, wait, more drops, then the other laser finishes up while the doc basically supervises. Go home and chill.

They had to put me out for the other two as they were a lot longer. For those, they cut through the eye ball and shaved off some muscle from behind to even out my eyes. They weren't crossed, but I had no depth perception and saw double when I was tired. The first surgery was on the left eye, then the second was on the right about two years later. After each one, the whites of my eyes were completely red for about three days, then they were bloodshot for about two weeks.

Probably. I mean, you're leaving minute scars in your eyes. I have a tiny wrinkle over my left eye from LASIK that optometrists can see.

My eye flickers sometimes when I'm tired, left eye. It flickers left and right. Dunno if a surgery could fix that. Doc says its cos my eye muscles got lazy.

I know, but if they say that about commercial flying I doubt it will be less stringent for military.

Really? In Canada its 20/20. And you if you have to start wearing glasses after joining, its all good.
