Well, I have an old lawnmower that I still use to cut the lawn. Gas powered, like 1HP, and the thing can rip when I turn up the throttle or whatever.
It does get pretty loud, loud enough that you have to almost yell to the person next to you.

I was wondering if this is bad for my dog's hearing. She is usually outside when I'm cutting the grass, and I can tell she is afraid of it.
I know a dog's hearing is very sensitive, so is my loud lawnmower going to affect her hearing? It must be 3 times as loud to her.

Well your only alternative would be to use scissors.

I thought that was normal for lawnmowers

I reckon she'll be fine, so long as she doesn't heel to you while you mow.

Her hearing should be fine, take Gundogs as an example.  Her hearing will be sensitive to high pitched noises rather than loud dull sounds.

Hope your dog dosen't do what mine does to the hoover; attack it and try biting it.

Well I know those electric lawnmowers are much quieter.

Get one of these old-school types.

My friend uses one and says the newer ones work really well. It's also a little bit less money going over to oil companies and Saudi Arabia. Plus, gas mowers create 5X as much air pollution as cars.

lock your dog inside while you mow the lawn ?
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I have an electric. It is quieter, but not a whole lot quieter. Definitely get the one with the battery pack. Mine is older and has to be plugged in; that cord is a freaking bitch.

But she likes it outside. She doesn't like being inside when everyone else is outside.

You know you're supposed to wear ear protection over your own ears when you mow a lawn, right? And if a dog's hearing is more acute...

I listen to my music that loud, I don't need hearing protection.

Who wears ear protection for a lawn mower?!  I've never seen anyone do that.

she also won't like loosing her hearing ...
Lock her inside and have someone stay inside with her? Tell your mom to gb2kitchen, make you a sammich and watch the dog

Yes prolonged loud noises can hurt and damage a dogs hearing.
