I might have the chance to get my grubby hands on one of 2 monitors for cheap.
(Samsung 940BW 19" [4ms, 500:1, 1440 x 900], or Westinghouse L2210NW 22" [2ms, 3000:1 dynamic, 1680 x 1050])

For my uber cheap build Im most likely going to get the 512mb 2600xt (and AMD 5600+ Dual core CPU, 2 gigs 800Mhz RAM), and was wondering, would it play BF2 (preferably at high settings, no AA) with decent FPS at: 1440 x 900, or even 1680 x 1050?

Should do fine. At least med/high.

But I do not recommend that card overall, what's your budget for a graphics card, may I ask?

Cheap as possible (US dollars). I was looking at some 2600XTs on ebay for about $20 including shipping. Much more than that and I wouldnt be able to get the monitor

Maybe not get a new monitor, and spend a little extra on a Graphics card?  What do you use right now?

Well, Im on a laptop, but I have a 17" flickery HP CRT...

Correction: There are 2600 pro 512mbs on ebay, and then there are 2600xt 256mb on ebay... Which would be better? (Provided I cant find a cheap 2600xt 512mb)

EDIT: PCI Express 16 is what I need

One more question...

Would an ATi 1950XT work on an Antec Basiq 500W?

Go Nvidia over ATI (@ least for the low-mid range anyways) - nice to know that ATI have finally sorted their shit out and given Nvidia a run for their money.

8800GT shouldnt be TOO expensive (AUD$200), and will be able to run BF2 rather well @ hi settings. From what i have heard, the 8600's are pretty crap for what they are.

I would if I had that much money. I have to get one for less than $50

I found that the 1950 does work on my PSU, so Im now going through ebay for a 256/512 mb pro/xt/xtx version

1950 will work fine on an 500W PSU. You may not have the 6-pins power plug that is needed, but you can easily buy one at your local PC-store. In most cases an "2 x 4pins to 1x6pins cable" is provided with the card.

I can't stand no AA. I always turn down other settings just to have it! My X1900XT can handle BF2 on mostly high with 2x AA, so the 1950 (assuming it is an XT) should be able to do that ...

@Terror, I just checked the PSU and it has the black 6 pin

@Kyle Cool, what res is that at? Assuming some a-hole doesnt out bid me, I should be able to get a x1950 XTX 512mb

My old 7600GS OC did BF2 maxed at 1280x960 with 4xAA.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Shut up.

8600GT runs BF2 maxed with full AA. I _know_ that (first hand experience). For BF2 8800GT is hardcore overkill.

Noob Question:

What's so dandy about AA?  I play without, am I totally missing out on something, or is just a resource hog that does nothing?

Thanks, and thanks for the +1 buddy. \
EDIT: Forget my question, found out what it does.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aliasing

Modern graphics cards usually support some method of full-scene anti-aliasing (FSAA) to help avoid aliasing (or "jaggies") on full-screen images. The resulting image may seem softer, and should also appear more realistic.

For some reason, BF2 will only go to 2x AA for me.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but from what I remember when searching from graphics cards, the 2600's are absolute shit. They use up way too much power, get way too hot, and don't have anything to show for it. I'd either wait and save enough money to go with a 3650 (which are actually pretty cheap now), or go with the nVidia equivalent to the 2600.
