Can't really help you on 'solo' violinist instrumentation, but of course there's the whole world of classical open to you if you're so inclined .
I'm going to go out on a risk-recommendation here and recommend to you an album that is a timeless classic in it's own respect, and has violin samples recurring throughout... you may like, or you may abhor- give it a listen anyway!
Edit: Just realised how awesome the above video is, and consequently I am now going to go and thrash the album again myself- definitely check it out!

The intro sounded so nice, beautiful, that it switched to heavy metal with some tard screaming.
I hate it when I hear music where the intro is completely different from the rest of the song.
On a sidenote, compared to that intro, look up "The Irish Washerwoman." I think that's the name of the song. For violin, you'll like it.

Always loved Violin. Can never find what to search for etc. I'll have a listen now.
Thanks for those Ken... The first 2 were pretty bad recording but I liked the sound of it. And I hate Iron Maiden but enjoyed it.
