Could someone please enlighten me to the dimension's etc....

anyone know of a site that compares the size of 4870-4870 X2 (if its not the same length)-8800-8600. or if one of u guys know....

i would like to know because i am looking for an updrage in the graphics department.... but i dont think an 8800 would fit.... wondering if a 4870 or 4870 X2 is smaller than a 8800. (i have a 8600 atm)

also, is it possible to get 4870's or 4870 X2's that arnt dual slot thingy... because of my gay ass dell setup... i cant have dual slot.... im guessing a single slot version would be passive cooled? or a small fan or something ... so would that make a heating problem?

Help would be appreciated as i feel my 8600 is holding my computer back a fiar bit. (even though i can play all games i have on high settings)

A duel slot card will almost definently work with a dell it takes up to slots on the back of your case not your mobo. its 9.5in long.

yer i know its on the back of the case not mobo.... when i was looking for cards a while ago... the computer guy said that i couldnt (told my dad not me) that a dual slot card wouldnt work in this case because dell computers back slot things are like upside down or something (thats how dad explained it to me) id never heard of this... but just trusted the computer guy.

so please enlighten me to wat would fit.

anyways. here are pic of inside of case.

My friend has a dell like that. I successfully installed a x1900xt into it. You have to remove the PCI slot holding thing. The card will fit but it will be unsupported. You'll have to ghetto mod a holder for the cards. I used some wood, glue and zip ties to stabilize the cards. Maybe cutting out a section with tin snips will also work

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

hmmm ok. would it be better for me to buy a cheap case (that everything goes in the right way up lol) and then get a new card? or just try a ghetto mod?

I'd go for a new case, but you'd also have to get a new CPU cooler, as Dell's cooler only works in that case (without ghettomodding).

You can't just move your mobo into a new case. Pretty much all cases are ATX, your mobo is BTX. There are BTX cases out there but I have no idea if dell even uses standard BTX boards or if they have some crazy proprietary version. I'd try doing a ghetto mod before you practically have to get a new PC.

4870 X and 4870 are the same size lengthwise.

Both 0.5" shorter than a 8800

He might have a cooling issue. The fan of the 4870 would be right under the black plastic around the cpu heat sink.

I think a 4850 would be a better bet here... Single-slot, and all. The rest of the system would probably bottleneck a 4870, anyhow.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

im running

AMD athlon X2 5200+ (2.66 Ghz)
4GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM
Ageia Physx
360GB SATA HDD.

so would that bottle neck a 4870? and also. how much better would a 4850 be than my overclocked 1GB 8600 GT

is a 4850 shorter in length than a 4870?

Dunno how long it is, but you've got plenty of space in that direction. And yes, a 5200+ would bottleneck a 4870. It'll probably even bottleneck a 4850, to some degree.

A 4850 would probably be about 4-5 times faster than your 8600GT, depending on what 8600GT it is.

Whoa, really? Then I can fit a 4780X2 soon instead of my 8800GTX
