I heard that Intel won't let NVIDIA make chipsets that support Nehalem unless Intel gets licence to use SLi on their chipsets.

Anyone heard what is going on on the green camp atm?

If not, my options for my Nehalem build just got a lot simpler.

Hardware cat fight.  It's all a he said that she said crap.  Last I read, Intel said give us SLI licence or no new socket support.  Nvidia said, nonono we have licence for Intel, and they said, no, fuck you, you aint getting shit.

If intel doesnt let them use it.  Nvidia can either stick to current sockets (which wont last long) go AMD (which is teh lolz) or try and make there own processing solution.

yeah this is getting ridiculous. I guess I just grab one of those R800 ( ) AMD cards in Q2 2009 when I build my Nehalem rig and forget about this bitching about SLi support.

lol.  I can't believe this is still an issue.  I guess it would be too much to ask for people to get along and make a great card/s....pffft.

Agreed.  Though Nvidia is used to pushing it's partners around, I dont think there used to someone bigger than them who has the capacity to take them on.  If intel descided to go into performance graphics solutions, they have an edge over ATi and Nvidia in terms of fabrication, and am sure they could swindle some of Nvidia's and ATi's top engineers to come work for them.  If I was Nvidia I would give them the lience, am not sure the nforce buisiness is worth loosing out on there bread and butter GPU side.

If this is the case I see nVidia as being between a rock and a hard place.

nVidia doesn't want to lose their Intel license because there is such a large market there, but because their chipsets suck SLI is the only compelling reason to buy one.  However, if they don't give Intel the ability to implement SLI, they lose any potential market on the Intel side.
