It's probably because no one gives a shit about Canada, not even Canadians. America on the other hand, we're kind of a big deal.
You see this shit is the reason why Americans are probably the most widely hated people, because of this kind of attitude.
I notice they are always very quick to put down Canada, thing is, Canada is a superior country.
Oh, you mean kind of like how Brits are so quick to put down France?
See, I can generalize too!I'm fairly sure that was mostly a joke.
I can only guess why July 4th here in the States is so much more celebrated than July 1st in Canada, since I have no knowledge on how Canada really came to be. I'd guess that with our turbulent creation back in the 1770's, and knowing that we had to fight back the English (more than once) to become and stay as our own nation might've made it so much more important for us. Plus, the whole Declaration of Independence, and how symbolic that document is to America might contribute to our zeal.
I have no idea on whether or not Canada fought to gain their independance (seeing that the only war I know that was fought on Canadian soil was the French-Indian Wars). But if they did, I'd be puzzled as to why Canada Day isn't such a huge deal.
You are probably right because Quebecers celebrate Quebec's day on June 24(even on June 23) much more than Canadians on July 1st. Even if Quebec isn't a country, there are big party, fireworks, shows with popular musician from Quebec, etc.
As you said, Americans had to fight many times with the British and got their independence using rebellions. Canadians got their independence gradually (in 1931), 64 years after Canada was officially formed in 1867. Also, Canada got their Independence from the British with their agreement.
But it's another story for Quebecers. Like Americans, they had to fight a lot of time with the British. British conquered New France in 1760, then the struggle between French and British began. The British tried to assimilate the French (French had to speak English and become protestant to be in the government of public office). Then in 1837-1838, there was a rebellion. The Patriots (a group formed mostly of french Canadians) formed an armed resistance because they wanted more rights for the french Canadians, and they wanted the responsible government (democracy). Even if the patriots succeeded (the responsible government was formed) quebecers had to fight to keep their culture and avoid assimilation.
I think you're right when you say that history has an effect on how much Americans party, but I think American are just more patriotic than Canadians.
BTW the French-Indians war wasn't a big war and didn't affect Canadians at all because there was only 5000 people in the colony, all french.
