background: Canadian Tire (hardware, outdoor, sports goods, automotive, nation-wide store) have little card-type things called rain checks (im assuming they are at most stores, actually) and they give them to people when they're out of stock on an item during a sale, so they may come back to purchase the item after a sale, but for sale price.

lol scam part: my brother's friend works at Canadian Tire and is quitting soon, so he's going to grab a bunch of blank rain checks, so all we have to do is write the item code, and the price we feel like buying it for.  The cashiers are trained to void the retail price and punch in the price on the rain check, so as long as we don't put an absolute shocking sale price, we can effectively buy whatever we want from Canadian Tire, for very cheap. We even have a few friends that work as cashiers at Canadian Tire, so we might just get them in on it, just to be safe

so: sweet idea or no?

Actually, that's not anywhere close to MasterMinds ... if they have anyone doing decent accounting for the chain, they'll detect that the price sold is lower than any previous sales price and start an investigation.  If you participate in this, you might discover the joy of fingerprinting, bail-bondsmen, and court.

Yes, your only chance at being remotely hard to detect would be to use the price that something was previously already sold at from an actual sale, in which case you might as well get an actual rain check...

Send us a card from jail! *Waves goodbye*
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Aside from all the other many flaws in your plan, what are you going to do when they notice the item was never out of stock?

So lemme see if I have your plan correct (who gave me a copy of your plan?!?!)
1. Get rain checks
2. Fill in the code
3. ???????
4. Profit

It seems kinda a low thing to do, though. Reminds me of the douchebags I know who work at department stores and steal crap from the back room.
