Was there a reason for the EPA doing that? I would like to see a source. Are they worried that people may have explosive liquids in their back shed or something?

I am pretty sure that there is less pollution from vege oil exhaust.

What he fails to tell you, is that it has to be a diesel engine, and there is a trick to converting your engine to accept using veggie oil.

Myth busters did a show on this once. They got an old S class Merc and strained some vege oil through a sieve. They fed it straight into the car and it went pretty well.
It was a pretty simple car though, it probably wouldnt work so well on a modern turbo diesel. Also, it is likely to solidify when it gets really cold (then your stuffed).

That doesn't change the fact that it should be banned. It's upto the consumer to do what they want, as long as it doesn't make the car un-road worthy they can do what they want, really.

Pretty silly to make it banned, if you ask me. It's not upto them to ban things because of reasons like that.

Doesn't matter what you convert to. If you run on veggie oil, you can be fined by the EPA.

Reason: It is not a taxed or government regulated fuel source. Nice one eh?

ummmm...thats like everything dude.

also, it wasn't too easy to run your car on veggie oil in England until last year or so.  So, it is not JUST a US problem.

also, can actually show me where the EPA actually fined someone under this law?   or is this just some obscure law that nobody enforces that you people get all worked up over?

Sorry blokes but idc about England. THIS is the land of the "free". Or it was....at one time.....

And the veggie oil process is a large continuous chunk of manual labor to save a few dollars on getting gouged at the pump. I feel if a fellow goes through the trouble of converting his engine , and collecting then filtering used veggie oil to save a few dollars, he deserves to enjoy the benefit without reprocussions.

Yes. Many have been fined over thousands of dollars and face felony charges of gas tax evasion.

The Googles is uberz.

erm, not according to everyones favorite wiki....

"The conversion of an automobile engine to burn vegetable oil is not legal under US Environmental Protection Agency guidelines.[9] The EPA has not fined anyone for doing so, but certain laws may have to change — or a certification process may need to be established — before VO conversions become more popular in the US."

I guess the main point is, it is illegal.  Don't like it?  Well, don't let the door hit ya.

oh ya, and the EPA does not regulate fuel, they do not make things legal or illegal.  They monitor the pollution.

I won't be leaving good sir. Ill just load up and be waiting.

THe law falls under the EPA regulations on pollution, ironically which veggie oil causes less of. And no the EPA does not collect or impose the fines. THat is the job of local IRS offices, which they have done.

Be glad we live in countries where we at least have a chance of trying to get laws changed. You're telling people to either stick with the law or get out, that shit is more like China or Iran. Actually they just lock you up or kill you.

It's not like you're trying to legalise murder. I'd tell someone to gtfo of they tried to go for that too.
