yes but here is a little info about mountain flying. downdrafts and rotor clouds. they can make an airplane drop 2000ft in a matter of seconds. no bb gun or chute would help him with that.

I'm not even sure he's flying over any mountains. Bend is on the east side of the Cascades. Eastern Oregon isn't exactly mountains, it's high desert.

he's cruising at 20mph and he has an altimeter. he doesn't have much to worry about besides altitude, so I doubt it's a problem.
