Genuine gay term. "can't-get-it-anywhereium". Yes, I read the wiki article, I'm a wiki scholar on that subject now. It's still a stupid-ass name. Combine it with 9-foot smurfs, multicolored flying dragons, a testosterone-pumped colonel/general/whatever and "I see you"-lines, and all you get is once good directors gone senile.

That's right George Lucas, that goes especially for you.

Is unobtanium your greatest complaint? Get real. I didn't require a fleshed out backstory to enjoy Alien, and I didn't for Avatar either. I viewed the moon-planet as the main character in Avatar. They sure spent enough time designing the environment.

The difference between that and the new Star Wars movies SW became all about the special effects, which was a complete turn-around from what we new from episodes 4-6, where all Lucas really had to work with is character and plot (though still cheesy) dynamics. Nothing could be more bland than how he had Amidala portrayed. Natalie Portman's a pretty decent actress, but you wouldn't know it from Star Wars.

Just watch prince of psersia sands of time

mildly entertaining, relatively amusing at points, generally quite cheesy, overall not too bad but nothing to shout about. Felt like a mix between The Mummy and Troy, or something. 6/10

all im saying is that inception had a fantastic premise and narrative concept but they pinned it to a shoddy plot.

there are 101 ways you can 'set-up' a narrative so that the plot involves 'xyz' opportunities to show off 'abc' action/CGI sequences.

the whole energy-company shit is lame. it's a tired 'theme'. whether it's background filler or main-event, it's just yawnworthy.

Well, seeing as every facet of our modern society is pinned to the mass acquisition, creation and distribution of energy I'd say it's a fairly pointed plot device or theme.  There are few other entities, short of governments, that have the kind of resources, power and influence push these kinds of stories along.  In the case of Avatar, what other non-governmental entity would have the ability and will to send human beings light years through space for any reason?

... the point is im tired of plots hinging upon some energy-crisis bullshit, PERIOD.

you could have made a film about dreams, the subconscious and dreams-within-dreams WITHOUT the global capitalism/energy political bullshit.

Last movies I saw on the small screen (2,5" Zen) while on my adventure to Russia:

Point Break: 6/10
It's a classic, what can I say. Keanu Reeves' acting was never so bad as in this movie, that includes Bill & Ted. The guy shouts his lines sounding like a retard while Swayze speaks his in the same scene.

Big Stan: 3/10
Rob Schneider got his leading part. Good for him. Cheap laughs, some of them actually good. If the best part is about a tattoo around the rectum, then it can't get a score over 5. Carradines appearance brings the score up a bit.

Green Zone: 7/10
Matt Damon! /Team America-voice. Yeah, I liked it, a lot even.

From Paris With Love: 6/10
Guaranteed Luc Besson action. Travolta brings his Travolta. Would watch again in a year or so, but would rather watch Leon, Nikita, 5th Element and Taxi instead.

Perhaps the most succinct and accurate movie review I've seen.  Ever.

I think Big Stan deserved atleast half a 10`r ...

Been collecting some classics lately ...

Maltese Falcon: 8/10 - Bogart playing detective Sam Spade, quite an intricate thriller from the early 40's or so.

El Dorado: 8/10 - Another great John Wayne western

Rio Lobo: 8/10 - Another great John Wayne western

The master of Ballantrae: 6/10 - Not the best movie starring Errol Flynn

Casablanca: 10/10 - Bogart again in one of the really big classics

could've gone deep into the realm of art house tripe with too much self-conscious handling of the dreams-within-dreams theme too.

Balancing act.  Films rarely make it through the whole filming process with the right balance completely intact. Somewhere, a writer, director, actor, producer, or editor is going to have a screwed up perspective he inflicts on the work.

Only one of two movies I've actually walked out on.
(I seem to have blocked the title of the other movie out of my memory)

I think it was after 15 minutes.
Only that long, because I was hoping for something unintentionally comically bad.
Nope.
Just completely bad.

Good film, a balanced view of the issues, the Israelis didn't really come out of it too well.
