“Snowflake is non-binary and goes by they/them, and has the power to generate individual crystalized snowflake-shaped shurikens,” Daniel Kibblesmith, a writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and the creator of the characters, says in a release video. Snowflake and Safespace are twins, the names inspired by the popular usage of the two words in a pejorative sense, which the Marvel characters were inspired by and seek to subvert.

“The connotations of the word ‘snowflake’ in our culture right now are something fragile, and this is a character who is turning it into something sharp,” Kibblesmith says. “…These are terms that get thrown around on the internet that they don’t see as derogatory. [They] take those words and kind of wear them as badges of honor.”

Weirds me the heck out. I imagine if Marvel took this idea and applied it to other superheroes from other certain groups (say, black Americans), it would come across as especially insulting. I think when people were imploring them to stop just giving minority groups hand-me-down roles and actually write new characters, this wasn't what they had in mind.

At any rate, I don't expect Dilbert will go very weepy over the character interactions between Snowflake and Safe Space in the eventuality of an associated MCU film.

I can't put enough years between the days I used to read this stuff and today. Even back then I got into the comics because of the cartoons, and thought they were mostly unbearable.

Pet Semetary 2019, 4/10. I enjoyed the original though it had its faults. Somehow with the same runtime this one managed to have less story/characterization and added some bad green screens and a funny semi crash.

Does that include marketing?

I'm sure the Butthole Cut will make up for any losses.

Pretty much the same cycle. Star Wars movie comes out, fans gripe and give the studios money. Next Star Wars movie comes out, fans gripe even more and give the studios money.

I primarily give them a shot just for nostalgia value. Still haven't seen the newest, though.

I do have a mild tendency towards obsessiveness I'll admit. I think everyone should.

Idiocracy is one of the very few works which has radically changed my thinking. Others have given it a gentle nudge here and there.

I used to think it was OK for people to do whatever they wanted to do, if they couldn't be bothered getting an education, if they wanted to spend their lives racing dirtbikes in their backyards, if they wanted to spend their time obsessing over sports stats and throwing beer at each other it was all OK, it doesn't matter as there are other people who want to do research, develop things, make progress.

But it does matter, because eventually they reach critical mass, they overbreed their underachieving offspring and displace the achievers.
Pretty soon we end up with a world of Jays who elect a Trump and a govt full of morons who can't or won't tie their own shoelaces and ridicule anyone who has read a book and then we're all fucked.

If you haven't seen it it will kill some time, prescient in predicting a social calamity which results in people prioritising the share market and 401ks and how they'll flush the lavatory and getting their opinions from moronic celebrities.
