I just saw it today, liked it a lot. As Ty said, it has its share of good action (actually, some awesome action moments, especially Spoiler (highlight to read):
when he got in the mech suit and wupped some ass, lol...), without turning into a dumb action flick. The documentary sections fill us in nicely on the essentials, but also keep us guessing.
The two lead protagonists are strangely likeable, especially Wikus, and there are some good comic moments. It also has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing as to the final outcome.
I think it would be best left without a sequel, but a highly enjoyable film that left me wanting more. Mr Jackson sure does know how to create a spectacle!
Spoiler (highlight to read):
The alien kid was also a nice touch, cute little guy...and the weapons-testing scene with the live target drew more sympathy to the plight of the prawns, up until then they are seen more as dirty, violent creatures.
It was also satisfying to see events set in SA instead of the US; obviously the main reason for this being the links to apartheid, but it also led to some more interesting developments, such as the Nigerian arms-dealer, and Wikus's accent was fockin' funny, lol.

The First one was the best then from there they got shittier and shittier.
