If you want to stay in the low to middle price ranges then that bass looks like a good option. It's got onboard electronics which I always like and the pickups look decent, though a test run to see how they sound would always be preferable. There are some cheap-ish Warwick rock basses on that website if you can stretch your budget to around 500 dollars...Warwick are a solid brand. I play my mate's Warwick sometimes in my band, it sounds fantastic.

You're right, but it's very easy to overdo it when you first start slapping, especially for guys who are 'self-taught'.

The Electric double bass is actually really easy to play but it's kind of a cheat really. It sounds exactly like a double bass but plays like a fretless bass. The fretboard isn't radiused (not sure if that's the right spelling! It's not curved like a real double bass) so I can't bow it. Here is the exact model I have...

Bass player...I don't play guitar that much.

I've been playing for about ten years, I play fretted, fretless (I have an Ibanez custom made 4-string fretless) and double bass (I have an electric stand up bass). I'd have to say Les Claypool of Primus is probably my biggest influence but I also love Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham, Mark King and Tony Levin too. I play a lot of slap, tap and chord stuff in the Claypool/Stanley Clarke style.

I could post some YouTube clips if you like seen as my identity is now no longer a secret!
Damn man, I'm impressed.  By far better than me.  I really don't play very often as of late.  Trippy videos.

That is a smooth sound there.  How much would that set you back?  Yea, I really wanted to get much more in depth, but once the whole wife, kids, homeowner scene began -free time is a foggy distant memory.  Lawn don't cut themselves and floors don't get magically retiled.  Old college days I was playing 3-6 daily now I might put that kind of time in over 6 months.  Kinda sad actually, I really enjoyed it -especially when you could get the non-musicians present to unconsiously bob their heads to a riff.

They're pricey but not too bad. The one with all the options I want would set me back about 2000-2500euro. They're only available from one place in California. Modern adult life sure does make practice take a back seat btw!
