That school needs $950,000 for its sports program. Holy fuck.
Is it a surprise that a lot of foreigners think Americans are stupid? Music and arts programs have gotten the shaft on funding for who knows how long. A lot of the public schools here in DC have pretty good sports programs but their academic programs are not so good. A lot of the schools are falling apart and in disrepair because it seems more focus is put on high schoolers winning a tournament than getting an education.
I'm not saying high school sports should be done away with, but isn't it about time we put academic stuff on the top of the priorities list? A million dollars could buy (copypasta from digg):

Hell, split it 50/50 for all I care.A new building, renovations to old classrooms, 2000 brand new computers (considering $500 a piece), paying teachers in general better, materials for the classrooms (couldn't even begin to count how often I heard my teachers tell me they personally have to buy copy paper), the addition of new teachers would create smaller classroom sizes resulting in more one on one teaching which has been shown to improve grades dramatically... FFS, the list could just keep going on and on. Shesh, 2000 computers alone would pretty much give each student a computer to use and once you load them up with software used for teaching, I guarantee more students would enjoy the work and learn a hell of a lot more during class.
