Agreed, its ridiculous. My school just spent 250000 on bleachers... And now they have a huge budget problem. To sustain last year's curriculum/staff, they are short.... wait for it...

It looks like Mount Vernon should privatize its education.  The tax-funded system obviously isn't working.

i go to a poor ass school ina nice area wit ha shit music and arts that might not get funding this year, but yet we can afford 1.5m to build a turf stadium for our football team thats like worst in the state.

want to know why? because that money counts as building for the school, which they cant use to fund teachers. The systems fucked.

That's a large part of the problem.  School's budgets are legally split.  Many schools have extra funds for property management, but their budgets for textbooks and staff are constantly in the red.

In '05, my history books were discussing the "extremely recent" fall of the USSR...but we had a really nice indoor track and basketball courts! (In all honesty, my schools slight focus on athletics helped me secure a $350,000 education...irony)

School should be about exploring different things to find out what you are good at and what you want to do in life, but first and foremost, students are in school to get an education.  The last time I checked these kids, college included, were "Student Athletes", not just athletes.  If that how you helped pay for your education, and by some miracle you make it to be a professional athlete, good for you.  However, athletes tend to have short careers, and most don't make the money that the "superstars" make.

Get an education first.  That is something that age, injuries, and failing health can't take from you, and always makes you marketable.
