Soccer is just not violent enough a sport for the USA. Look at ice hockey and football (no idea why anyone likes baseball, though...)
The USA's problem is that they grossly overpay players in whatever sports. Players who get paid that much stop caring about the sport... It's happened to the Brazilian soccer team. Usually, when they lose in the World Cup, you see players breaking down and crying, and a lot of them get really emotional when they win, too. But when they lost against France, it seemed like no one cared besides Cafu and Roberto Carlos.
People from Europe that have sold out (in football - the one you actually play with your feet, that is) go to the USA to get more money for playing in their later years.

I know a ton of kids my age (high school) who play soccer, it's big in Minnesota we have some like mini world cup thing. Teams from all over the world come to play, my friend's team beat a team from Argentina in the championship game. So soccer is a big deal here.

We will never be any good at that game. Our enormous genitelia prohibit us from kicking with the strenght the less endowed countries would. It is an unfair liability.

We're too busy being good at every sport other than soccer to be good at soccer. :S
because here in the states soccer is so expensive to play. last week even for a state team for me to go to the regional training for ODP was the upside of 700 dollars. now if we could get it to be less expensive to play here then more lower income people would be more interested. and where is the talent pool? of course its in teh lower income they dont have all the fancy xbox360's and computers. they lucky to have a car to drive to practice. i live in these neighborhoods where all day everyday these kids that are naturally fast and skilled players are outside playing basketball. these type of kids dont fancy soccer/football because its not there for them to play. i have to travel 3 hours just to play on a preimer team, there is nothing where i live ...
now if soccer became popular here in the states i know that we would compete with the best of them.
