Did we...um...have a naval blockade on NK, Boss?

We did with the Soviets. Another example of getting things done without guns. I suggest you look up the meaning of blockade.
The USA & USSR instead used proxy wars and supplied the guns to others. Iraqi, Iran, Afghanistan all played a part in USA/Soviet Proxy wars. Hence the current mess that is the ME.
You think that is the reason for ME conflict? Might it have something to do with the broken borders drawn by Europeans decades before? I tend to think forcing four thousand year old blood feuds to try and coexist is a more likely explanation. Your reasoning is just to simple for me.

While a naval blockade may be seen as acceptable to US politicians, it constitutes an act of war for Iran and will lawfully justify a response from Tehran.

The Western media will then plaster the headline America under attack! on the front page of all newspapers; Washington will portray Iran's defense as an act of aggression and will easily manage to convince Americans that a swift victory is achievable by waging all-out war on the country under the pretext of the War on Terror.

I wasn't trying to imply that it would actually work. The only solution I could have imagined would have been incentives (that's what eventually worked for the NK). However, having seen that they turned down the offer for free nuclear technology, one that was harder to make the jump from energy to weaponry, I see no workable solution. Of course even the NK didn't negotiate until after they detonated a bomb.
