pc help!!

ok so I was playing some bf2 last night, nothing out of the normal when all of a sudden the colors on the screen just sort of melted together and made some weird patterns. Sooo I thought "well shit," and restarted my computer but when it turned back on it just turns white and fades with a pattern almost like a screen saver. I decided to leave my computer alone for the rest of the night to see if it would "fix" itself but it it sill doing the same thing. I've had some trouble with my video card overheating in the past so I took off the side panel of my case and have a fan blowing cool air into the pc and that's always helped. Anybody know what could be going on? Thanks

specs are

Intel Core2Duo E66000 @ 2.4 GHZ
2 GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon X1950 PRO 256 MB
Windows XP

Do you have a LCD?Then the image might have burned into the monitor
