My brother is being a dick just because he thought he would try to be helpful to my mom by threatening me to shut the cabinet.  Then I got her to intervene and tell him not to do that.  She won't hardly do anything about this fucking asshole.  He's 27 and 1/2 years old and he still lives here in the same room with me and all he does is annoy the SHIT out of me just because he's bored and then he acts like a little bitch about it just like this whenever my mom tells him he has no authority over me.

Whenever he gets home late at night, he pauses all of my torrents so they don't do anything at all for the rest of the night.  Is there a way to password the program so he can't fuck with it?  I'm gonna make the password: Brian is a douche howitzer

Lock the PC with a password is the best method
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Then he'll bitch about it to my mom and she'll password it and gve the password to him like she did this entire past year.  I'm not even gonna risk that.

This is the only computer he can use and he thinks I'm O.K. with him downloading porn on it all the time with Limewire just because we're both guys and we understand and all this shit.  I'm not, he can carry the horny feeling with him for the rest of his fucking life for all I care.  I hate this bastard.

I'm sorry about the story but I am so fucking tired of this god damn idiot harassing me and fucking with everything all the time.  He's my half brother too so I can hate him as much as I want.

Don't you have your own PC?

If you use a communal machine then you'll have to be prepared to put up with potential shit from other people. Just save up and buy your own.

In any case, it's not like anyone can keep you out of a machine you have physical access to.

I suppose you could create a second account, password it, use fast user switching to log into the original account and leave the new one running. Also set up windows to log in automatically to the first account

Passworded screensaver should work too - set to display login screen on resume.

Even if you could lock the program, or use a utility to lock a program, what's to stop him using Task Manager or in fact restarting the computer.

Need to make friends with a Malware programmer tbh. Rootkit that shit.

I've already googled if you can run a torrent app as a service. Sadly there seems to be none that offers that option

good idea. You could use Srvany.exe and Instsrv.exe to create a service.

follow up: I've found a guide. Should work. That way utorrent will run completely transparent and won't be noticed by the user. You can admin the program though a web interface

linky

Note: I've never used instsrv and srvany

Hmmm ... two observations:
  • I'm guessing that this is not "your" computer since (a) your mom ultimately controls it and (b) you share it with your brother.
  • Torrents are notoriously problematic with an internet connection, slowing it down to a crawl sometimes.

If these observations are correct, then you have no rational reason to be angry with your brother.  When he's on the computer, he shouldn't be slowed down by your torrents ... and you would probably do well to learn the discipline of sharing.  Sharing necessarily means that you don't get your way all the time.

(If my observations are wrong, then just ignore what I wrote).

I'm 16

He'll be 28 in November

I'm going into my junior year this year and my mom says he'll definately still be here when I've graduated high school.

This is definately mine because the computer guy at my school gave it to me but my mom thinks we should have to share it since we live in the same room.

No.  It isn't your computer.

Most parents do not operate their homes like a democracy, where ownership is distributed to the "people" and decisions are by the majority.  Most parents practice more of a communist system headed by a benevolent dictator.  Thus, ultimately, parents view everything in the house as being owned by the "family" and, as benevolent dictator, they decide how communal property is to be used ... regardless of how the material came into the house.  This is how parents manage chaos.  Now, parents know that they have to be careful not to socialize all things for the family, but they will choose some things.

Apparently, your parents have chosen to socialize your computer.  Is this fair?  They pay for the electricity that powers it, the facility that houses it, the environmental controls that keep it from deteriorating, and (likely) the internet connection that makes it ultimately useful.   Without all these things, "your" computer is useless ... so, your parents allow you to use these core items of infrastructure in exchange for your computer being socialized.

You should thank them for all the things they give you, rather than complaining about a trivial thing such as your torrents being paused late at night.

(Meh, I have a parents perspective ...)

Learn to share, maybe if you were less whiny your half brother wouldn't be inclined to passively aggressively pause your torrents.

I share the 360 with him all the time, he's lucky I don't make him get off that, my parents wouldn't care because I actually paid for it with my whole 380$.  The consequence of that would be that he would be on the computer always stealing it from me and loading it with even more porn and just generally being as much of an immature dick as he can.  His porn folder alone takes up about 15 GB already and this is only a 160GB HDD.

I already know about that and I've thought about it many times before out of boredom.  They don't use this computer, it is only me and my brother that use it.  Maybe it's my brother that's not being thankful that I let him sleep in a room that would otherwise be mine,

Well, you don't really have a say in that matter either.

Try and get him to make friends with free porn sites or what not, at least stop using limewire. On that topic, limit your torrent upload to where you get something done and he can still browse at night. It's the shit of sharing a computer and you're going to have to get your own or deal with him in a way that mutually solves your problems. As you've said, the parental dictatorship won't do a thing.

And tell him to get off his ass and insinuate this to your mom.

Why don't you show your Mom what he is downloading? Since in most places you have to be 18 to view porn I don't think she would like that.

Well judging by your responses you seem to me to be arrogant, spoiled opinionated and you have a really inflated sense of self worth.

You're 16, stop being such a mummy's boy and take responsibility for yourself and he might show you some respect, if my younger brother ran to my mum every time he had a problem with me, I'd piss him off on purpose as well.

Explain to him that you need your torrents, tell him he can close them when he's on as long as he sets them up running again when he's done, leave him alone about his porn, as long as it's not gay, or child you've got nothing to worry about.

I bet you remind him every other day that he's lucky you let him sleep in your room and he's lucky that you let him use your stuff, no wonder he resents you and looks for ways to upset you.

Of course it's his computer. It was given to him. The rest of your post I agree with entirely, the parents pay for the electricity, the internet etc. because of this they are well within their rights to stipulate the usage of the computer since they pay for it's operation (unless of course he pays some sort of rent to his parents - which is what I've done when living at home, from the age of 18 which does give certain rights to use the power and internet and such like).

I really don't buy into the whole parental control of property though. If you own something it is yours, you have legally enforceable rights to it. If the parents were to confiscate it, or some such, you could involve the police and have it returned (which is something I did with my gameboy when I was a kid and my dad confiscated it (I was 9 and very pissed off about this - but hey, you get very pissed off at trivial nonsense (much like the OP of this thread) when you're a kid) - I called the police who gave my dad a call and told him he was legally obliged to give it back, which he did - though I didn't get any pocket money for a good long while after that, which shows that you might be entitled to something, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's in your best interests to pursue it). What is yours is yours, but a computer isn't much use without power - so unless he goes out and buys a generator and fuel for it as well as a mobile internet connection, then the parents have a big say in how it is used.

I still can't believe that a 27 year old (same age as me) is sharing a room with a 16 year old kid.
