I know we have a thread for all the small fix updates for TF2, but I think this one deserves its own thread. It rocks. I've highlighted the best bits with an extra big highlight at the end, but its all good really.

[-]July 29, 2008 - Team Fortress 2 Update Released (7/29/2008)

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Team Fortress 2


Fixed team switches on Attack/Defense maps spamming the console

Fixed the Kritzkrieg not working on servers with crits turned off

Fixed some clipped localized strings in various in-game dialogs

Fixed several cases where files were synchronously loaded while the game was running

Fixed a shutdown crash in the material system

Cached rendering of item model panels to improve performance, in particular while weapon selection was visible

Added a gear symbol behind the health bar for Engineer buildings, in both target IDs and freeze panels

Players killing themselves will now give a kill credit to the last enemy who damaged them

Fixed grenades, rockets, and flamethrower being able to fire through grates at round starts

Fixed players being killed and creating ragdolls during team switches

Fixed various exploits and performance problems in CP_Badlands, CP_Well, and CP_Fastlane

Removed health bonus from the Backburner


THAT's what Valve have been doing this last month. making some much needed bug fixes. I'm also very happy that the +50 has gone. It was wrong on many levels.

They haven't fixed Spycrab so I'm happy.

Goddamnit.

I hated the backburner at the beginning so I adapted to it and now I love it.  Now that I love it they are nerfing it.



Hopefully they didn't fix the flame-through-floor bug.  It's almost necessary to take out sentries in the loft on goldrush.

Extremely pleased with this update, they've taken out the round start grate exploiting which is fantastic!! Also, I think Valve should have added that the BackBurner can only give critical hits when the Pyro has hit from the back

This thread lists most of the things wrong with it. There's also the fact that none of the lighter classes had a chance if a 225/300+ Hp behemoth of a Pyro ran around a corner. Playing Medic and Scout has been hell since the Pyro Update. Now it looks like everything has been fixed. And then there's the fact that it broke the more health = slower thing.

If you used the BackBurner properly (it is listed as an ambush weapon after all), this update should not bother you in the slightest. However it would help balance the loss of the +50 if they widened the crit angle slightly. It's very unforgiving at the moment.

Every single one of those changes I'm happy about except the suicide one. Often as demo/soldier I'd kill myself at my last 10HP if I knew some talentless pyro was going to get credited with the kill.

Thats probably why they added it

I remember when I used to play Pyro pre-update it infuriated me the way some soldiers would always kill themselves when they got low on health due to my fire. It was just unfair.

Why can't people realise that as soon as they start calling people a "talentless pyro/sniper/spy/New Zealander" after they get killed by them they're effectively saying "I'm even worse 'cause I keep getting killed by you".

I'm glad I haven't be killed by Ty, he's such a talentless New Zealander...

What does crit chance have anything to do with?

It has nothing to do with kills, just how much damage you've done in the last 20 seconds. (as far as I know)

It's got a lot of factors. Enemies in the area, damage you're taking, damage you're giving and killstreaks.
