Negative, and it's a waste of your money
Ok, thanks man, I trust your opinion.

it will run BF2 easily from what i ave heard... the 8800gt is as cheap as 130 bucks on newegg... the other question is your power supply...what wattage?
I'm over BF2. I'm looking forward to newer games.
I can get an 8600GT for $130 from Future Shop (I'm in Canada, no newegg) and an 8800GT for like $170, but I only have a 300W PSU.
The 8800GT recommends at least 450W I think and the 8600GT only requires 350W.
newegg is comming to you :-)

Against what most people think, 8600GTs are faster than 7900GTs. However, it's only by so little, that it's not enough to warrant an upgrade.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Same thing, different letters. Later rebranded to 7900GT.

He's stated several times now that he can't get that because his PSU isn't powerful enough to support it.

I'd like to see some proof please, not because I don't believe you, but so I can inflate my e-penis a bit.

Just check the Futuremark ORB. 8600GTs score around 4500-5500, 7900s score 3000-4500.

Well, for only $130, it's not that bad. I can see my 7900 struggling with some new games, and I want to be prepared.
7900 > 8600 tbh
Why is that?
They are almost identical in performance

When there's newegg in canada.  I'd get a 3850.  It looks fine and from the reviews it's better than the 8600.

It's $100 and you can save a bit more to get a better PSU.

It seems like a better alternative.
I have a 3850 256mb it's pretty sweet.

8600GT does beat 7900GT in performance, I know, I own both cards. However not by a lot.

And I know exactly what you will buy: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications … p;CatId=28 and http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications … CatId=1079

Add another $50-60 for the Canadian Tiger Direct, plus 14% tax. Does that still keep him on budget?
