The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

i cant even find a capacitor light on the mobo, and the only noise it's making at present is a really soft & quiet ticking, coming from the PSU

are all the power connections connected for the motherboard...  I believe there is a 24 pin connector and a 4 pin connector... the 4 pin is near the proc...

and did you use spacers for the motherboard so it wouldnt short out?

The metal graphic card bracket should be flush with the back of your case. If the screw hole doesn't lign up with the hole in the bracket, your card might not be pushed in fully.

You should hear a click when you plug the RAM in. It requires a bit of force sometimes. The clips on either side of the stick of RAM should be flush. If they're sticking out at an angle, the RAM isn't completely plugged in.

By the way, did you plug the 4 pin connector from the power supply into a jack near the CPU?

Take some clear pictures of everything, then we'll be able to see if you've missed out anything

You won't be able to see anything displayed on the monitor if your graphics card is not fully plugged in. A gfx card isn't needed to boot though like you said.

The problem is the PSU doesn't even work.  He's going to try another PSU right now...
