Hello...where to start...
I've been having an annoying problem when it comes to CoD4 and the microphone. I have an Asus P5B mobo, and therefore an integrated SoundMax HD audio card. Right, now when the microphone is working (recording functions with a program called Audacity work fine, the sound is good and clear, ventrilo and TS work fine and everything else also. Everything BUT COD4. I go in game, and the fps is basically dropped down to 5-10 fps, no matter the GFX settings. (With every other game it's fine btw) I'll mention right now that I have a c2d 2.2 processor, 3 gigs of ram and a 8800 GTS 512mb gfx card, I've been running CoD4 maxed out all the time, no problems.
Ok, so it laggs like hell in game, what do I do? I reboot the system, go back in CoD4, everything is fine. Now here's the annoying part: I go back to the desktop, try to record anything with the mic, or use Ventrilo, but there is heavy static. It's unbearable. It's not supposed to be like that. So I can choose if I want to use the mic or play CoD4. Too bad the mic is a big part of the game, when it comes to matches etc. I've been messing around with the soundmax settings, trying all kinds of things, nothing helps. Still static and all kinds of crap.
Now, I have a newer sound card as well, the SoundBlaster X-Fi xtreme audio. I used to have it set up like this: because the microphone did not work with the new sound card alone (Supposedly the card's fault after reading a bunch of forums etc, about the same issues), I was forced to have the microphone plugged in to the old integrated sound card, and the newer one was just an output for sound. Everything worked fine for some time. CoD4 worked fine with the mic, there was no static or anything while using ventrilo.
I do not know what changed. One day it was all fucked. I've tried everything by now. I tried updating every possible driver twice, I've reinstalled the soundcards and used them one by one, I've reinstalled CoD4 (Btw its fine with every other game, as I mentioned earlier, only CoD4 laggs when the mic works), and just now I finished reformating the PC only to find out the problem is still there.
At this point I just don't know what to do. My bet is that it's the mobo's fault, and that I should be getting a new one, but I'd rather not, because good ones cost money...
My setup again:
E4500
3GB RAM
Asus P5B mobo
8800 GTS 512mb
Creative HS-900 headset
...Anyone? ;(
